HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

1983 944 manual brake upgrade?
Hey guys I am looking for info on where I can get bigger rotors and calipers for my 1983 944? I don't want to go through the trouble of the turbo brake swap as you must change the entire front end. I see wildwood has better calipers but I would like to have bigger rotors. I am currently running 18 in twist wheels so I have lots of room right now. Thanks

there isnt a whole lot out there for early cars. when i was looking i found the wilwood calipers and brackets for stock rotors and that was about it. really, your going to have to piece it together yourself.
on my 85.5 i started with a set of rotor hats xschop had, they allow you to use any 2 piece rotor that is 8x7" bolt pattern. im not sure where the adapters came from, i think he said they may have been from coleman racing. i used a set of cheap wilwood 12.19" diameter x 1.25" thick rotors, a set of lexus ls430 calipers and made my own brackets.
the thing to remember is you need to design it to all work together. if you are going to use a single tandem master cylinder you need to make sure you choose you really engineer the brake setup right. if you end up with too much of a mismatch between front and rear an adjustable prop valve will never be able to dial it back in.

If you want very big brakes, XSchop just sent me a z06 caliper that I plan on mounting to 350mm cayenne rotors. I am also running 18" turbo twist wheels. If this is something of interest for you, let me know. I can have the centering rings made locally for $60/set and the brackets for the Z06 calipers will be also around $60-80/pair I'm thinking. I think for a smaller/cheaper setup, I will use the Cadillac ATS Brembos with 330mm Cayenne rotors. The Calipers are only like $80 a piece I think for 4 piston Brembos. ATS, CTS, Camaro, and I think C7 corvette all use identical mounting points relative to the spindle center line. C6 and C5 corvette are a bit different, but very similar. I think the CTS-V 6 piston calipers would be a cool swap too...

Thanks for the info guys, I'm just starting my research now as my car is way to fast for the brakes it currently has. Do you have any pictures of your setup Supermann22x?

Not yet, haven't received the caliper yet. I just made some basic CAD drawings so far.
