HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Remote Brake Servo
Hi
I can't find anyone who has either tried or suggested a remote brake servo. This seems, on the face of it, a cheap and effective solution to hydroboost and electric boost or the stamp on the pedal manual solution.
So my question is why not? I assume they are available in the states?
Thanx

Re: Remote Brake Servo
I cant remember who but there's a member here that has/had two installed; one behind each headlight. Probably one for the front circuit and the other for the rears. Maybe he will see this topic and chime in.

Re: Remote Brake Servo
It's a good question, and I don't know why more people don't do it. I have a remote booster on my car (as was said, one for the front circuit and one for the rear) and it works quiet well. My car is a track only car, but I don't see why they wouldn't work on the street.
Trade offs, yes there are some. There's a small initial dead pedal feel if you softly ride the brakes until you push hard enough to build up enough pressure to trip the remote servo. But the brakes are solid and have plenty of grip with standard pedal input.
I haven't driven a hydroboost car to compare so I can't offer my thoughts on how they stack up. But the system is simple and easy.

Which servo are you using and is it documented on these forums for us to look at?

Re: Remote Brake Servo
I looked into remote servos, older British cars (MGA/MGB) used them, you can pick them up on Ebay but are quite expensive. Here are some pictures of a car I found on Ebay, it has two MG remote brake boosters.

Re: Remote Brake Servo
That's my setup
The units are lockhead units - I don't think they are from an MG B, but thought they were from something larger. There are a many different unit with various bores for different levels of boost/assist. Offhand, I forget what bore/model these units are but if you're looking for a setup make sure you pick correctly.
As I mentioned, it's a nice setup and keeps things simple compared to the complexity of what I've read of the HB setup. Simple vacuum assist that's well understood and worked on. So far I they haven't needed anything as they just seem to work.
I haven't documented it anywhere, but would be happy to assist. Install is fairly basic with standard brake and vacuum line modifications.

That's a nice setup, If I saw your car earlier I may have went that route.

They look like Land Rover units.
