HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

BLACK clutch fluid!!
Just flushed my clutch fluid, the stuff in the reservoir was a little dark with specks of black stuff. But the fluid that came out of my bleed line was very opaque and a dark grey.. almost black. Clutch has been squeaky for a little while now, and felt 10x better after putting in fresh fluid. I know the black stuff is clutch residue, but did anyone ever figure out the fix for this? I've put maybe 3000 miles on it since I did the initial bleed.

Re: BLACK clutch fluid!!
I've got the same thing going on. I added a speedbleeder to my remote bleed line so I can flush the fluid easily. I do so pretty much every day that I run the car on track. The fluid always comes out black and nasty but the clutch seems to work fine. I'm not getting any squeaking.

Someone on LS1tech.com created some air intake ports along the leading/engine side edge of the lower half of the bell housing cover and enlarged the exhaust ports in the back to increase airflow around the clutch. He said it improved the life of the clutch fluid and kept it clean longer.

Yep, after doing some more research it looks like this is a pretty common thing. I would think my clutch is getting plenty of ventilation - the front side of the bell housing is partially exposed due to the custom oil pan design. Guess I'll just have to make fluid changes a more frequent maintenance item from now on!
