HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Stock 15x7 wheels enough traction? Empty Stock 15x7 wheels enough traction?

Post  tkrame944 Tue May 21, 2013 3:45 pm

I just got my car running and its off getting painted. I like the price of tires for the stock 15x7 rims, $55 each for decent tires. I am planning on doing a lot of burn out and a lot of drifting so cheap tires are great, but i want to be able to connect when i want to. I havent gotten to drive my car much so im not sure if these will get the job done. If you guys think these will work then i will have my painter paint my rims black, ive seen black dials before and i think they are nice.

Thanks for all replys

From my small test drive i figured it was probably hopeless but if there was hope of not dropping $2000 on wheels i had to test the waters

Same here with 245/40/17 PS2s on the rear. Spin 'em easily even in 3rd. My car originally came on a set of black phone dials. Looked nice but I went to 17s for big brakes.

Well big rims are in the future, but for the time being is it really usable with the small wheels?

LS1 HP would scare me with such small rims and tires; It’s going to be real tough getting traction. I run 265x40x18s on the rear and have a tough time keeping them from spinning. I would say a minimum rear tire width would be a 245 on a 17"x8.5 or 9" RIM, and 205s or 225s on the front depending on the rim width (7 or 8".

There are lots of low cost Porsche 17"x8" or 9" rims out there; you can find Turbo Twists and Cup rims going quite cheap. Common combination for 17" Porsche rims are, 245s on the rear and 205s on the front, 265s on the rear and 235s on the front, you can also find 255s on the rear and 225s on the front.

17" tires are a lot cheaper than 18s or 19s, you can also find good used sets because allot of import sedans uses high performance 17s/18s.

Be careful with rims that have an 47/53 offset, late model rims with that offset will need spacers. Another lower cost option would be to install 1986 944 Turbo rims in 16x7 and 16x8, you can run 225's up front and 245's in the rear

So any rims with an offset from 47 to 53 work?

Changed my wording, rims with 47/53 offset will work but you will need thick spacers, I ran spacers with Turbo Twists for years with no issues but those spacers are expensive.

I don't remember what size spacers I used, I think they were around 1" front and 1" Rear.

Yes, for larger spacers, for smaller spacers like 5mm you will need to run long studs.

I found a set of rims with 55mm and 48mm offsets, for those to mount up i will need 1in and 1.25in spacers for my 1986 non turbo right?
