HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Fuel Filter Question?
Greetings forum friends!
As I prepare to install a new fuel pump, new fuel lines, and a new Corvette style filter/regulator (not shown) at the tank, I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to add a second new fuel filter located between the tank and the fuel pump??
It seems like good insurance that would add life to the fuel pump.

<Factory Outlet Hose from Tank> <New OE Fuel Filter>

<Original Factory Fuel Pump & Filter Layout> <Fuel Line to Engine Connection>
There is not much room available between the tank and fuel pump in the stock configuration.
The factory fuel tank has a screened cage surrounding the intake and apparently both Porsche and Bosch consider this sufficient to prevent "larger" damage causing particles from entering the pump.
Does anyone have experience using multiple fuel filters??
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Fuel Filter Question?
when you build an aftermarket fuel system for efi its standard practice to use a 100 micron filter before the pump and a 10 micron filter after the pump. when i put my car together i had a look at the strainer and felt that it was sufficient to keep the pump happy.

Re: Fuel Filter Question?
Thanks Sharkey!
You mentioned some filter specs which prompted me to do a little digging along those lines.
I came across these "In-Line Fluid Filter Micron Ratings and Recommendations" on the Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies web site: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A) Fuel system pre-filter (before the pump): 25 to 400 micron. This filter needs to protect the
pump from damage.
B) Fuel system final filter (after the pump): 1 to 40 micron. High-performance fuel injector
manufacturers recommend a 10 micron or finer filter.
From my Web research, I discovered the Factory Porsche "strainer" is rated at 5 microns, which far exceeds the above recommendation!
From the Summit website, the Corvette/LS inline Fuel Filter/Pressure Regulator, is also rated at
5 microns, which is on the "favorable" side of the range and dead center for high-performance applications.
All in all, if my factory fuel strainer is in good shape, I should be good to go without an additional filter, just as you did. I'll find out soon!

Re: Fuel Filter Question?
I only had enough room for a post filter, my pump was a cheap FAST pump anyway, so i don't really care about it. LOL!

Re: Fuel Filter Question?
I retained my Porsche fuel filter since it was new, and added the "Corvette" filter after it. I have a ton of miles on the car since the conversion and haven't replaced either filter.

Re: Fuel Filter Question?
Murrayg,
Thanks for the input!
Double filtration is always nice...considering the Porsche filter only has two connections vs. three, perhaps a good position would be before the Corvette filter/regulator unit... then it would get dirty first. On the other hand, I'm using all AN connections/quick connect fittings so changing the Corvette unit as needed will be easy.
I'm anxious to get this beast running so I'm inclined to go with the standard set-up this 1st time around.
