HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

starter ground wire
I've had a few problems with a no-start condition due to the starter ground wire. Last time I ground the nut and cleaned the connection as best I could, but the problem came back after a few weeks. Loosening and then retightening the nut usually fixes it. Anyone else having this problem? I'm wondering if I should add a lock washer or try to get a new nut from the dealer.

The nut might be building up corrosion. Make sure your nut isn't made out of a material that is corroding. If that's not the case then I suppose yeah...try a lock washer.

I've got a wierd thing going with my starter. It cranks for a second, stops, cranks for a second, stops, ... Usually the engine will fire on one of those short bursts. I got underneath and loosened and tightened all of the electrical connections to the selenoid but that didn't help. Have you done something more to ground it?

I haven't added any additional ground wires on the starter. When it fails, I just get a "click" which I assume is the solenoid working but the starter motor isn't doing anything. Doesn't seem to be any visible corrosion.

What's the standing voltage on your battery? I don't know so much about the LS ECM but maybe it's cutting the current to the starter if the battery voltage is too low.

Hey Rich,
As you know, the starter is grounded to the block by the mounting bolts. I assume that you are using the 944 starter circuit so there is no connection between the PCM and starter. It sounds like something is going bad in the starter. Did you wrap the starter with a heat blanket?
