For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Should I buy this car?
Hey everybody,
I am brand new to the forum, so I hope you guys don't mind a budding enthusiast joining your ranks.
I've always wanted a 944 -- in fact, it was the first car I ever wanted.
Now, I'm in the market for one, especially since I learned from this site that there are kits available for LSx swaps.
I just found a 944 near me, 1984 with 95,000 miles for $1500. Manual, of course. It starts right up, no leaks, currently inspected. But I'd appreciate it if you guys could help me decide whether it's worth my time/money.
Issues I've found:
- Paint is faded, but I'd almost expect that from a car this old
- Dash has multiple cracks
- Driver's side fender, behind the front wheel, a piece of metal seems to have broken off at the bottom (maybe 2-3 inches) and the surrounding metal (another 2 inches) has rusted/oxidized
- Not sure if the rear wiper works
- Seems to be missing the antenna
- Torn driver's seat (along the seam in the middle)
- Passenger window doesn't seem to work (power windows)
- I didn't bring a jack, but there didn't seem to be any substantial underbody rust.
For $1500, I'm looking for cheap, in-town transportation, that can also be a project car down the road. I would LOVE to eventually do a LSx swap. Do you guys think this car is worth it?
I look forward to hearing from you, thanks!
