HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

ECU learning, first start up
What do you guys do to allow the ECU to learn after the first start up?
I had a base tune from SSP but the car would not even idle after a minute, it would just die.
I have a spare ecu that I used and it idled high then tapered down, it idles really low around 600rpm.
A new base tune is coming from a local tuner and I'm hoping it would idle a lot better.
The car has a Texas Speed MS4 cam in it. Do you start the car and let it idle for 10 minutes or something? to allow it to learn....
TIA
Chris

Re: ECU learning, first start up
I started mine and after about ten seconds of hunting around it idled smooth. It is a stock motor and the baseline tune done by Branden from Lt1swap.com. Maybe there is another issue like the throttle position sensor?

Re: ECU learning, first start up
IIRC when in open loop, from cold, the engine is running only from predetermined base idle tables and uses the MAF and temperature sensors to set fueling and spark to achieve the desired RPM. I don't believe that the idle tables "learn", they have to be adjusted for each application. The O2 sensors are not being used to adjust fueling during this time either.
During open loop any part throttle or PE conditions will pull from LTFT and spark tables, again without adjustment from the O2 sensors. Once in closed loop, warm, the system will use all sensors to "learn" and adjust the tables etc.
You will also need to set the tables for idle during closed loop operation.
For open loop operation your new cam will more than likely require more idle airflow, a little less base timing, and maybe a change in fueling.
I have been told that the base idle map in open loop is one of the hardest things to adjust via a mail order tune, unless the vendor is very very very good or knows your particular set-up very very very well.
Have you considered getting tuning software? I couldn't live without mine...
