LT1 water pump

What water pump are you guys running with the lt1 swap? I've got the camaro pump and the outlet house hits the headlight bar. Did any of you guys running into this problem? In running the engine uprights from TPC and have a littler over a half inch of clearance at the oil pan.

What motor mounts do you have installed, are they the car mounts? Sounds like you may have the truck style motor mount which is taller by about 1/2". double check the part number and make sure they are the same as the 1970 Camaro mounts.

IIRC I'm using the RH motor mounts. I'll look at that when I get home though.

Its super tight I'm running the ANCHOR Part # 2142 motor mount . I have TPC uprights on 3/4 xmember drop

Mine is tight too... But it looks like I have a little more room... My hose just touches the head light bar. I've got a good picture at home; I'll get you a picture later on today.

Looks like your motor is sitting way to high. Check you motor mounts and see if your running the car or truck mounts. the hose is still going to be really close no matter what, but it doesn't have to touch.

Alright. I went and checked the mounts. I am running the car mounts. To make sure I got another set of mounts from my FLAPS and pulled the old ones out. They have the same dims.

What else could be making the engine so high? Do the water pump outlets differ between the car bodies? Is there anyway I could have put the cross member back together without a spacer that was supposed to be there? I'm baffled by this.

This is an early car, was the cross member farther up on the early cars? I'd hate to this the factory has this much difference between the cars.

Do you have the hood latched in this picture? My hood wont latch with the throttle body on.

I had to cutout the support brace in that area to get the hood to close.

I've got some more pictures of the way the engine is sitting in there and I took some critical dims to see if it pretty well matched what everyone else was seeing.

Do you have the 1/2" spacers between the cross member and frame rail?

No I do not. I was under the impression that I didn't need them with the LT-1.

I needed spacers on mine.

looks like its way too high and forward. Check the distance between the spare wheel well and end of the transmission (shouldnt be more than an inch or so). With my LT1 engine, there was about or less than a 1/2" between the drivers side bellhousing bolts and the firewall (making it near impossible to tighten those bolts up).

As far as bringing the engine down, it looks like theres alot of room under the pan. If you can weld, you can customize the mount uprights to bring it all down. The radiator hose should just be under the headlight bar.

Like LT1 said, Get the trans back as far as possible. Get the oil pan as close to the X-member, then drop x-member down as far as needed till hood closes.

Was looking at the rear of the tranny and it looks like I'm out of luck there, only about 3/8th of an inch till it hits the spare tire well. I also checked out the tranny mounts and they look great. Still the rubber ones but in good shape (never abused the car when I drove it, glad it shows somewhat). I took out some of the cross member support for the steering rack as that was holding me up from putting it all the way down. I'm hoping that works. I got some headers for it and am test fitting them at the same time as I am testing the clearance, I've never put headers on this car before and am having a little trouble getting them in there, looks like I'll need to get rid of the heat shield mounts on the passenger side. After that I'll see how it fits in there and if I can get the hose on. If that doesn't work I may look at doing something else with the headlights. I could take out the mounts and weld them, but I don't have a welder handy (closest one is an hour a way). So I guess we'll see what happens and I'll report back here when I find out.
