For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Rear Crankshaft Seal
Swapping out the rear crankshaft seal since everything is apart. Popped out the old one which took up the whole area from the top of the cover to the bottom of the area that the seal sits in.
The new seal, P/N 89060436, is much thinner than the original seal. With the seal set in and flush with the top of the cover, there is at least 0.125" gap between the bottom of the seal to the lip at the bottom where the old seal stopped.
I looked around on LS1tech.com and I guess this is ok? It sure doesn't seem right.
Anyone else on here have experience with the 89060436 seal?

Re: Rear Crankshaft Seal
I just put one in a week ago, GM redesigned the seal at some point to change the direction of the lip on the seal so now it doesnt "Require" the special install tool like it used to. The one i installed was exactly the same, slightly recessed, and the was exactly how the one i removed was.
