For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I wanted to check out parts fit and clearance before I trial install my engine. Doing it on the engine stand is much easier than rolling around on the floor.
Now I can see why the cross member has to be reshaped to clear the oil pan.
Question: Should I slot the mount holes in the cross member?

Grind the cross member down for clearance. You may have to do a little grinding to clear the headers if you got the S&P set.
BTW, what are the details on that starter. Why did you get that over a factory starter?

Starter is a MSD, engine came without starter.

I was looking at some mufflers online and told my wife I might get a hooker muffler for my car. All she heard was, I am going to get a hooker in my car.

They always are........ anyways, don't forget to machine enough away to account for squish and twisting under power. (squish is the amount of give the mounts have with the drivetrain weight on them and twisting is pretty obvious).

How much would you say is enough? I have between 1/8 and 1/4 inch between my crossmember and header on one side.

That's smart to test fit the engine/crossmember on the stand rather than in the car. I wish I'd thought of that.
There's a photo in my gallery of the trimming I did.

I trimmed in order to lower the motor - for clearance in order to fit the motor w/o using spacers. As other's mentioned you may want to also fit the headers just to see if you have header/crossmember clearance issues on the passenger side. I needed to trim just a bit off the rearmost inner section just upstream from the passenger side collector.
Looks like you are making good progress.

Really depends on your mounts type. 1/4" w/ rubber and maybe 1/8" with Polyurethane.

There is a specific way to trim it to get maximum clearance and the rack mount boss still be very strong...
I have a spare X-member that I'm going to line bore the control arm points this weekend for an inch drop... I'll trim it the same way for the Moroso pan ......

- What dimension is is your sump (bottom block edge to outside bottom edge of sump) where the cross over is involved?

Seems my choice of starter (MSD) was a bad one.
Was checking the knock sensor and I realised that the header was touching the starter and preventing the header from fitting flush with the head.
The MSD starter cannot be clocked enough to swing the body away from the Renegrade header.
