HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Central tube Empty Central tube

Post  fliermike45 Fri Feb 11, 2011 6:03 pm

I pulled my transmission today and now the central tube has to come out to be replaced by an overhauled unit. I see that the rear suspension torque tube has to be dropped.
I checked the factory manual, Haynes, Rennlist and this site but can't find info on removing the Central Tube.
Can someone please help?

Edited: should say suspension torsion bar tube

I am not sure if this is what you are asking for but [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has a torque tube removal instructional.

Pretty much just remove the whole back half underside of the car, then reinstall. I hope you're checking out Constantine's rebuilds. For the amount of work involved, it's worth doing it right...

Central tube Empty Central tube news

Post  fliermike45 Tue Feb 15, 2011 6:09 pm

Thanks for the heads up.
I got my central tube out after lowering the rear suspension a la Clarke's Garage.

Prior to this I had purchased a good used tube on Ebay and dropped it at Constantine's place (we live in the same town) where he rebuilt it. Its a good job I did that because the tube I pulled out is scrap,
There is spline wear at the clutch end and the splines are damaged at the coupler end because the coupler was incorrectly aligned and the pinch bolt damaged the splines (and the bolt).
It appears that a clutch job was previously carried out on my car as one of the long "Ears" on the Central tube had been cut off. I believe this allows the tube to be moved backwards to work on the clutch.

Guess I will turn the scrap tube into a lamp stand.

Haha, yeah, good thing you picked up a spare!
The torque tube is a real pain, but i definitely don't miss the bearing noise.

The old one sounded like the balls had fell out of the races and were rolling around in the tube. LOL
