HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

volvo - Jaguar front calipers Empty Jaguar front calipers

Post  storch Sun Nov 28, 2010 7:21 am

I've read that some have used the xj6/12 calipers with success. Seen them priced remanufacutured and loaded with pads for about $65.00 each

Just wondering if they fit under the 15" phone dials.

Thanks

You mean these? I think I got these from a 77 or78 XJ6.

I haven't tried to fit them under ant 15's but they fit under my 16" Fuchs. They may fit under 15's. I have a set of 15 x 6 Fuchs I could try but I probably won't be able to check until next weekend.

Don't mind the questions, but are those iron or aluminum? Piston size? Pad availability?

They are iron and the piston size is 44mm (4 pistons) You should be able to get just about any kind of pad for these. They will fit the early spindles by ovaling out the mounting holes.

The iron Girling 4-pot jaguar calps are 48mm pistons. The rear calps are 43mm pistons.
The 48mm 4-pots would sink the stock MC quickly, but could probably be adjusted for a longer throw at the clevis. I wonder if anyone ran into that using the Jag 4-pots.

Also beware of slotting because the axial mounted bolts will allow the caliper to move around on the NA spindle ears if poorly done. This can cause piston sticking issues and deflected spindle mounting ears. Proper way to do the mod would be to drill the caliper ears and install offset inserts. I do like the fact that the jag calps use a 120mm wide pad. I researched these and have all the info on the 8g flash drive.
If it were me doing NA spindles on small diameter rotors like the NA's, I would use Vovo 240 4x38mm calps with the factory rotors.... The stock MC will not plunge deep and although the pads are 100mm wide, the caliper ears are 76mm spreadwidths and they fit under 14's (later turbo volvo 240's had 15's)......

I think you are correct, they are 48mm.

Regardless, the Jag uses a 15/16" master cylinder which is the same as the front portion of all years of the 944. I recently added rear discs to my Grand Caravan as well as larger front discs and calipers. The volumes work out close to what my 944 will need with the Jag front calipers and I kept the original 15/16" master in my van. There is not much additional noticeable pedal travel on the van so I don't see that it will be a problem with the 944.

Hey V8, do they fit the 15" Phonies? and how much do they weigh? Also wondered about backspacing (spindle ear to caliper spacing) running factory rotors.

I need to check this. I probably won't have time until the weekend though. As far as 15" Phonies. the closest I have are 15" Fuchs.

I have mine set up for factory rotors.

Here are a couple of pictures.

Do the pads make full rotor sweep contact? They look too high. Also it looks like no spacer between calps and spindle ears in the pics?

No spacers. The top of the pads are parallel to the edge of the rotor. So the pad has total contact.

The 944 M10 x 1.0 lines bolt right up too. I always have suspected the spindle manufacturer for Volvo may be the spindle manufacturer for the 924-944-968....

Yes IIRC, and they can use line splitters or be modded between the pistons (like the RX7 calps). I just don't like the fact that they are steel bodies.

So these volvo calipers bolt right in without any modifications? What does "installing line splitters or be modded between the pistons" entail?

Did some research and found that the abs models only have one hose inlet. Wonder if they would be a direct bolt on 4 piston alternative?

Thanks

The Early BMW guys put those on their spindles. You MAY have to add a washer or two between thecalps and the Early 944 spindle which is exactly 76.5mm spreadwidth on the bolt centers. I am not sure, but I think you can plug off one of the m10x1.0 input ports and call it a day.

just doing some searching online and found this site
/volvo240bigbrakes.htmlhttp://www.davebarton.com/volvo240bigbrakes.html

i wonder if the 240 brakes will fit on the early spindles, would the s60 r calipers fit, with the required adapter from RSI?

am i reading this correctly, that volvo 240 4-piston calipers will bolt on to a 944 early NA spindle?

do you have dimensions off the 944 brake piston? i wonder how much braking would be improved with such a setup..maybe even weight saving?
