HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Rim and tire size 91 944S2
Does any body have any advise on tire and rim size on my 944S2 1991. I have seen 18 " and 17" for 944's but I am a little worried about fittment and rubbing? My wheels are factory rims with 245/50/16 rear and 225/50/16 front. They fit well but these rims have to go.

It really depends what your goal is. Pretty much any 87+ Porsche wheels from any "narrow body" car will fit. Find some rims you like, then go from there.

I run 18x8 et 50 front 18x10 et 65 rear. 225/295 tires.
The rears rub but only because my trans mount is shot (soon to be fixed). You can run a wider tire on the front but that is what I had on hand.
If you have a lowered car you will most likley have to roll the fenders.

RIM AND TIRE SIZE
THANKS FOR THE INFO. WHAT DO YOU MEAN ROLL THE FENDERS. Yes my car is lowered and I just bought 18 x 8 et 50 for the front. They look like they will work, but close fit with a 7mm spacer thats required. The wheels are used and the rears are 18 x 11 et 65. Package deal, yes the rears are to wide. They are chrome turbo twist. Does any one have the same rims but 10", if not the fenders might need to be flaired.

Re: Rim and tire size 91 944S2
What size tire will you be running? that can be the most important factor. I have 295's on the rear of my 87 turbo if I had put 275's on the 10's I would not be rubbing even with the bad trans mount.
And by roll the fender I mean you may have to fold the lip on the rear fenders. The lip is the most common place for tires to rub.

I have always liked that style wheel. I wanted a 17in wheel though.

I like those Doug. What did they run you and what brand are they? I want to see what other rims they offer.

Have you ever looked at wheelenhancement.com? They have a good selection. Those come up regularly on Ebay.

Re: Rim and tire size 91 944S2
They are 18x8 and 18x10.
I bought them from OEwheels LLC, good rims, great price.
I figure at $500 I can destroy them if I want and replace them in 3 years. They have held up on DC (read horrible) streets for a month or so with no issues. When I had them mounted/balanced they didn't take too much weight, actually less than my stock PD's.
Did I mention they look awesome aswell?

Re: Rim and tire size 91 944S2
I would be really careful about buying non-OE reproduction wheels. I bought some "Techno" style wheels (love the way those look) and when they arrived they weighed 34-36lbs EACH! That is almost 2x what a good race wheel in that size would weigh. That kind of unsprung weight is HORRIBLE for the cars!

Re: Rim and tire size 91 944S2
IIRC they weight 26.5 front and 27.5 rear, so slightly less than Sport Designs.
Bottom line, yes they are heavy, but I don't track the car and I have yet to notice a difference from the PDs other than I don't spin tire anymore.

That's not bad! I wasn't speaking about your wheels in particular, just some of the wheels out there.
