HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
I think it would be pretty tough, honestly. Don't let that discourage you though!
The main reason i say that is because the 5.0 intake is very tall, and the distributor would also have hood clearance issues. If you have a 5.0 and a 944 lying around i think it could be fun, otherwise if you're just on a budget you should check out the 5.3 or LT1 conversions.

Depends which 5.0?

The new 5.0 should work, doing the old hand measurments but need to see real specs. Old 5.0 not sure, seems pretty tall but the 4.7 has been done so anything is possible.

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
Well honestly, the LS motors are just an updated Ford 5.0. Might as well get the latest and greatest, right?
I worked on the 5.0L's for years. They're pretty good motors considering they were designed in the early 60's. Good luck getting them to seal with synthetic oil though...

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
an ls motor is definetly an update .but a stock 5.0 is no comparison to a stock ls motor which is a totaly different design from a different manufacturer.makes more power and tourqe than a stock 5.0.5.0 is a good motor to use if you have everything to bolt the motor up or someone to fab up an adapter if dont have access or the tooling to do so .xshop can probaly help you on that one or texas perf concepts.me personly would rather use the gm ls or sbc being that there is more parts out there already designed to do the conversion.and i like the power 4 dollar that you can get from a chevy.

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
There were 2 guys that swapped Ford v8's on the old board. One was a 5.0 the other was a modular. Both swaps had good pictures as well.

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
Has anyone got any pictures of the 5.0 swap. I have the same idea a spare 5.0 and a 944 and a smallish budget.

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
i would like to see any more information anyone has regarding the 5.0 swap as i cant go to the local parts yards and NOT trip over at least 30 injected 5.0 motors. whereas chevys only run to about the end of the SBC.

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
Gary, if you have a small budget, I would recommend the Chevy swap. You'll spend a ton of money and time just getting the 5.0 in place. No one make an adapter kit or headers or anything else for that matter that I know of. I won't be making them. Unless you want to send me lots of money!
Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
Heres the only one I know of...its a 4.6L DOHC.

You will have to find a bellhousing that is between 5 and 5.75" depth that will take a clutch set-up. The Manual BH's are too deep....

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
I'm going to be swapping a 5.0 into my 944. I'm hoping to have it in by Spring, but we'll have to see how things work out. For reference, the deck height on the Windsor is shorter than the LS engines and the Windsor is more compact than the Mod motor. I'll make sure to take pictures along the way.

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
We suspended the V8 in the engine bay today. We need to get a bellhousing before we can go too much farther, but we're on the prowl. We know which one we're looking for, we just need to find one.

I'm looking for a 302/C4 157t bell. Once we get one of those and a rough adapter plate, we're going to start on the mounts and clearancing. As of now, we don't know how much we can notch the oil pan. Ideally, I'd like to get this thing in without dropping the cross-member, but without the bell, it's too early to say.
Since the engine was just hanging in there with no good reference points, I figured I would refrain from taking any pictures. I will say that it looks like there's enough room on the right side of the engine to fit a turbo.
The firewall will need massaging on the left side of the bay because the Ford blocks have their cylinders offset the opposite of how Chevy does it.

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
I bought one off of ebay shipped for $50.00 so they are out there.
If your engine is out what is the dimension from the end of the T/T to the crossmember.

I know they're out there, I just didn't start looking to buy one until about 5 hours ago.

Good question. We didn't get a very good dimension on that. It was between 16" and 18", I think, but we're more interested in letting the parts do the talking at this point. The car isn't in my garage and the crossmember is unbolted anyway, so I can't really check. I'll have a better idea once I get that bellhousing.

Re: Ford 5.0 conversion ???
im glad somebody is doing a ford conversion. im a ford guy to. i have a 351w long rod sitting in my garage. maybe after i do my ls1 swap ill look into buying another and do a ford one. would take more fab work tho thats for sure.
Im really surprised they got a mod motor in there. those damn things are so wide. the older ones shouldnt be as wide so a little easier fit maybe?
