HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Looking for some help.......

My car is eating CV axles so I'm looking for an aftermarket alternative.

I have a 1984 944 NA with the steel arms.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you beefed up the transmision mounts ? how low are you ? stock 84 cv ? try some turbo splined ones ( cv and axel are more splines then the early ones if i remember right ! )

are they well greased up ?

Trans mounts have been changed and the car sits about an inch to an inch and a half lower than stock.

My car has the steel trailing arms and the CV axles I'm running are stalk one and are shorter than the ones found in later 944 models with the aluminum trailing arms.

Lindsey Racing Axle Shaft Empty suggestions for your cv axle issue

Post  Gutterboy Wed Jun 19, 2024 12:24 pm

would highly recommend replacements by Bob from hotrodz of dallas on the forum here, he sells shafts that dwarf even the ones that i had custom made from i believe 4340 chromoly by xschop many years ago.

doing the diy of the solid mount is a good thing to do that many have sworn by, i jumped on an offer that xschop had years ago for a solid billet mount with polyurethane bushings and then combined that with the reinforcement plate from TPC since i have next to zero flex now. Redid my cv boots and bolts with allens instead of triple squares and nord-lock washers and all is well.

perhaps some or all of those recommendations will help?

A little late to this...

Do the failures occur only on the drivers side? If so, that is likely a sign that the transaxle is moving too much and collapsing the axle causing binding and failure.

I ran the original axles in my 951 with zero issues over 100k - 20k miles with the V8. I had a solid trans mount from day one.

I replaced those axles as they were getting worn - could feel slight vibration under hard acceleration - with new GKN units from FCP (Lifetime warranty).

I would suggest a solid mount of some sorts. I filled a stock rubber mount with 3M window weld.

Lindsey Racing Axle Shaft Empty Axle shaft

Post  JW1970 Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:54 pm

Axle shaft arrived today.  It appears to be very well made!  Shaft is shorter in length than the OEM one on the car, and has two adapter plates to lengthen it to the OEM size.  The adapters should help with the stress causing the failure by minimizing the angle during hard acceleration.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

FYI, the adapters will increase the angle of the CV to axle, for a given amount of travel.

What is the maximum angle these CVs are designed for?

IIRC the 944 CVs were 22 degrees
