HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

924 that has been modified already
Hello thanks for letting me join the forum. I noticed there isn't much about ls1 engine into the 924 especially a RHD version.
I am wandering if it is because there is just way too much to change on a 924 to make it worthwhile? Or are there other factors that make it unfeasable? Are the bodies of the 924 and 944 much different apart from the crossmember?
The reason I'm asking is I bought about a year ago another 924 project this one is a 78. When it arrived I realised under the yellow paint it's an old Martini with the interior and white paint in the engine bay. The 78 is not supposed to have a 5 speed, 4 wheel disks and 5 stud hubs nor should it have adjustable shock tower mounts on the front.
Would any of this help in making this 924 a possible ls1 candidate?
Cheers
Ray

Hello Ray NT,
Welcome to the forum!!
I can't help much with your specific questions about a 924 conversion, especially the RHD version, but from my understanding, introduction of the 924 was more or less the prototype for an entry level "affordable" Porsche intended to save the mark from bankruptcy. Being a water cooled front engine car infuriated most purist Porsche owners but it did open up a whole new market of less affluent buyers.
As with any 1st gen car, the 924 had lots of ergonomic issues and performance shortfalls that the public was not hesitant to convey. Porsche responded with the new and very much improved 944 and the rest is history.
While distain for the 944 by other Porsche owners remained for quite some time, automotive historians have confirmed that its introduction, along with upgrades year after year, did indeed save the mark from extinction.
So...to shed light on your proposal to transplant an LS motor in a 924, I personally think it would be a wise choice to go with a 944 model instead. This way you don't spend hours and hours, and a ton of $ reinventing conversion pieces, and then when it's all over...you have a substandard car.
This forum has the information to guide you every step of the way with all the latest technology and tips.
I hope this helps a bit.

Raymond's right
Kent has several posts on the forum here saying that swapping a 924 is the road less travelled and has extra unique complications.
i can't speak to them specifically but i remember reading a few threads and its not for the faint of heart. not that it's impossible but it will require more custom fit and cutting i believe with some forced fitment.
