HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Manual Brakes
I have recently completed my turbo to LS1coversion. LOL if it's every really complete.
Right now I am using the hydro boost. This is a dedicated track car, but living in Indiana there are no inspection so the car is registered, not fun to drive on the street but can to test. The brakes seem pretty touchy like over boosted. also the hydro boost started weeping with very low time on the car.
So my question, has anybody heard of or used the link below. They do mention 944 application. They do mention 6:1 pedal ratio and a 1 inch cylinder bore. I have read on here the that is to big a bore for our cars. I have not but will call them to see what they say.

The hydroboost is way more touchy than the stock booster. But, it's really easy to get used to. Do you still have the stock turbo brake calipers? I had one client with the hydroboost that had me install the turbo S brakes. Was way too much brake. We put the standard turbo brakes back on pretty quickly.
As far as the Chase bay stuff, it's all chinese parts and has very bad reviews for being junk.

Good information, thanks. I do still have the stock calipers. I kind of hate the idea of increasing power and putting on smaller brakes. Having said that I'm also sure that stock turbo brakes are up to the task at hand.
Also the hydro boost weeping almost instantly, could the cause be the closeness of the header? to much heat to close. Will look into a heat shield.
Thanks again

I haven't had a hydroboost leak on any of them i've built. I suspect maybe just a bad seal in the HB.

There is a weep hole on the bottom of the unit which I am only aware of because it started weeping (I saw that and started weeping myself. Ha Ha) I have a seal kit to repair it. Of course the unit needs to be removed and disassembled to do this. I was hoping not to go under the dash for at least a little while longer. At 69 I can get under the dash ok its getting back out that is scary...

I'm 64 and not a small guy. I always remove the drivers seat and lay in the floor. Much easier.

Re: Manual Brakes
if you're still interested in converting to manual brakes, we take my car to competitions and the manual brakes work excellent. we had a local race shop fab-up an adapter plate for mounting a Wildwood dual master setup.

Do you have a picture? What calipers and rotors are you using?

Re: Manual Brakes
Stock 944S calipers and rotors. Brake pads no clue, but they weren't cheap. I've got tons of pictures and video. I'll make a note to get you some fresh pictures tonight.

I for one would love to know the details on this! Currently running the BMW HB system, but have threatened for a while to switch to manual if it ever gives me problems. Would be really nice to know some details on your setup. I have looked for a while online and just find sporadic details. Love the YT channel by the way, really appreciate all the effort that goes into putting those videos out!
Also, to the OP, I'm just on the other side of the lake as you know, don't hesitate to give me a shout if you need a hand! Even if it's just to crawl under the dash. Looking forward to seeing your car out on track

Hey '87, thanks for the offer. So far I'm good just like to complain LOL.
As far 944s brakes, interesting, do you think that's enough because you're on dirt? Not sure from high speeds on asphalt that would be enough. Just guessing, of course. I would stick with the turbo S set up if going the dual mc setup.
Awesome vidio, looks like a blast!

Re: Manual Brakes
It locks 'em up pretty quick on the street, but takes all of my muscles to do it, lol.
And because of the pad compound, the brake pads only work when they are hot...
Three very important notes on this:
- i can't get my bias bar to work properly, so the rears lockup early
- the OEM brakelight switch is trash, i plan to upgrade to a pressure switch
- the brake pedal will need a stronger return spring, trust me on this, lol
Also, here is an older topic with some more info:

Interesting. Looks like a lot of fabrication. I am going to put the smaller front brakes on and see how it feels on track before I attempt a manual set up. I am concerned with multiple high speed threshold braking attempts. Also what I have will cost no more just need to reseal the hydro boost for some reason.
Thanks for the pics and info. Looks like you are having a blast with your car.
