For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

V8 Drivetrain transplant from 1983 to 1991
Team: I've got a complete running and driving LT-1 build in a 1983. I just cracked the block in my 1991 944S2. The 1991 is recently (and beautifully) cosmetically restored, and the cost of rebuilding the S2 Porsche motor is not appealing since the 1983 with LT1 sitting next to it needs a body and interior restoration, but is mechanically complete.
I'm seriously tempted to transplant the 1983 build into the 1991. I did not do the 1983 car's build, but am willing to attempt the transplant. Can I expect a direct swap with few issues, or is it going to be more like starting from scratch?
(Please no "just do an LS swap" replies....lol.... thanks)

There are plenty of differences between the LT and the LS series engines
I think the only things you can reuse are the clutch related pieces but even the fly wheels are different
Better off looking for another short block

i think you missed what he is trying to do. he has an 83 944 with an lt1 swap, but the body isnt in great shape. he also has a 91 944 s2 with a blown up stock engine and a good body. he wants to take the lt1 swap out of the 83 and put it into the 91. there was no mention anywhere of ls swapping anything.
as far as i know it should be a fairly direct swap. there are some differences in the wiring between the early and late cars that you will need to deal with.

Sharkey - correct. Its my understanding that the wiring would be the main differences. As far as the fit of mechanical components, I'm just confirming that things can migrate over.
