HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

transmission fluid survey
im trying to sort out what fluid to run in my freshly built AOR. currently running amsoil 75-90 gl-4 manual transmission/transaxle oil and im on the fence with it. i get a slight crunch on fast upshifts, it might just be the 250k km transaxle, might be the oil causing a bit of it, could be a heavy clutch disc causing it, its hard to tell.
so i was wondering what everyone here is running in their cars and your experiences with it.

Mobil1 75-90 LS.
Turbo trans with LSD and cooler but not AOR. Short shift kit at trans. Spec stage 2 clutch and lighten aluminum flywheel. Willwood clutch master, sized up from stock Porche ( 13/16 ? Can't remember ). Solid trans mount. Track car. A little balky 1st and reverse until warm. Trans runs 220-250 degrees depending on how aggressive I feel.
It did crunch for a couple of track weekends right after the build was complete. This seemed to be a drive train alignment issue. I loosened all bolts at each section and re-tightened. TT to bell housing first then trans to TT housing. That must have relaxed what ever was out of alignment which I suspect was the pilot and clutch end.

I have used Mobil 75/90 LS and recently switched to Redline 75/90 NS. Not enough difference to justify the price and I think it was a little smoother shifting with the Mobil. FWIW, the transaxle was rebuilt two years ago by Kevin Gross and he recommended the Mobil.

Original transaxle with LSD, 87 turbo. Also, tried one of the swepco fluids, don't remember the number, it was blue, smelled horrible and was thick as honey. Made the transaxle feel like I was shifting through mud.

thanks.
reading the "other" forums, they make it sound like your transaxle will disintegrate without swepco oil in it.

You're right on that, sharkey. Hah! I've been running Redline MT-90 in my AOR for 4 track seasons. It was a well used trans before that and I didn't rebuild it. No issues, LSD is working great, shifts fine. I'm about to change the oil in it and will use MT-90 again.
The Audi community swears by Redline for the $$/performance. And the 924/944 uses basically the same gearbox as the 016 trans that's in all the old 4000 and 200 quattro cars. I've had several of those and always used MT-90. YMMV...
