For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

83 944 Clutch - Master and Slave
Hello There Everyone!
My project has been sitting for about 5yrs but I have been making slow progress here and there.
I am wondering about that Clutch Master Slave thing. I admit I have never had a hydraulic clutch before. Should I replace it if it has been sitting for a while? I mean I bought the car and started taking it apart right away. Do they go bad? I am not sure if the hose from the part bolted to the firewall is the right kind.
Can anyone help me understand how these parts work together?
Thanks for helping,
Ed

think of it as a braking system, the master cylinder is really no different than your brake master cylinder, and your slave cylinder isnt much different than a caliper. yes master cylinders do fail, but its worth trying before you replace it.

Here's a master cylinder replacement procedure with pictures.
And a slave cylinder replacement procedure with info on bleeding.
In fact, the whole Clark's Garage website is useful: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
