HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Cadillac LS6?
Hello all. I've been lurking a while absorbing as much info as possible in anticipation of doing a conversion to my 951 track car some day. Possibly taking a big step closer.
I just got a line on a 2005 Cadillac CTS-V engine that was mated to a T-56 manual. As I understand, the engine in this is an LS6. Are there any show stoppers to using this particular engine? Anyone used one of these that can offer insights?
Price seems right for the complete engine which I'm told includes the intake manifold to oil pan, but still waiting to hear if fuel rails, injectors, coils, accessories, etc are also included.
Thanks in advance.

The LS6 is a great choice I think as it's the best of the 5.7L LSx variants. Block improvements, LS6 intake, LS6 valley cover and the 243 heads.
The CTS-V accessory drive is the same as the F-Body with the exception of the power steering pump. If you chose to use a f-body pump (Turn1 PS pump for example), you need to get the f-body specific mounting bracket also. .
If the motor is sound and the price is right I wouldn't be concerned about the accessories, fuel rails, injectors... Etc. The parts are so cheap and readily available its a non issue if you don't get them. Plus the rails, and injectors you might consider upgrading anyhow if your bumping up the power or want to run a return fuel system like the original 944 setup.
The only thing I would make sure you get is the LS6 intake manifold which even used is sought after and runs a few hundred bucks.

Re: Cadillac LS6?
Thanks for the note. Possibly picking up the motor tomorrow. It definitely does include the intake manifold. No mention of the ECU or the drive by wire pedal either. Would be nice to have a complete set up for a swap. I'm more of a "Remove and replace" mechanic. Patching together the disparate parts always seems to end up costing a fortune in money and time.

Re: Cadillac LS6?
Has anyone tried the Camaro LS3 p/s pump ? Looks like if would be a perfect fit where the CTS-V pump is, but I'm betting it has the lower reservoir profile same as the Camaro L99 (automatic) uses. The L99 would work but you'd need to mill 3/4" off the back of the bracket to line up the belt.

The LS6 is a cable throttle body. I wouldn't worry about the PCM or wire harness either. You can get a 411 PCM on eBay for less than $100 and pick up a PSI standalone harness for about $500.

Re: Cadillac LS6?
Well, picked up the motor on Friday. Everything was included except the DBW pedal (even harness & PCM). I guess I have the choice of going DBW or DBC if I change the throttle body. The neck on the power steering reservoir was also cracked but from what I read above, recommendation is to change that out anyhow.
Engine also has upgrades such as Lunati voodoo cam 227/233, Comp springs, Titanium coils/retainers, hardened pushrods that were done about 12k miles ago. Has 80k total. Shop that did the work estimated about 410 hp at the wheels.
This is a slow build as my turbo motor still has a lot of life left in it and should be good for another year or two of typical HPDE use. I will still be lurking and learning as I pick up parts here and there.
