HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Need a depth dimension on the rack bushing clamp.
I have been working on a drawing to mount the 944 steering rack on my frame. This is the preliminary, and will have one or two revisions.
xschop was kind enough to supply me with several dimensions for my mounts for the 944 rack. I am in need of a dimension that is marked "x" on the drawing. It is the depth of the flat from the clamp mating surface on the crossmember. xschop has it as .57, I need it more accurate, as with calipers or depth mics to the flat from the clamp mounting split.
I'm thinking of using (3) 1/4 button heads to replace the raised rib at the bottom of the clamp.
By the way, my hat is off to xschop for his assistance.
I have most of the other dimensions.
Thanks in advance.

X= 0.57"
I measured to the flat part of the bushing interface. I was curious why the manufacturer Ball-milled below that surface.....Must have been a slow day on the X-member line

I'm thinking perhaps they wanted a radius rather than a corner to reduce stress, and undercut for someplace for the rubber to expand to under compression?

The real loads are side-to-side not up and down, but I get your idea.
Did you ever get the VW Poly bushings I posted info on? I had to CNC the center of the passenger side out to fit the larger dia. of the 944 Power Rack....Very Crisp turning now with the Polyurethane bushings.

No, I haven't done anything with the bushings. I though perhaps using (before welding) the base and the top clamp to hold the polyurethane. I would probably machine the hole undersize then. Is that what you did? If so, what diameter did you machine the hole to?
What do you think about the idea of using (3) button heads (1/4) instead of the cast rib in the bottom half of the clamp?

I wouldn't worry about it if you are using Poly bushings. Mine didn't have the indentions in the VW bushings anyways. After the clamp is locked down they are not popping out.
