HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

To get 360-370 rwhp what do you need?
Cam (which one?), head work or heads, different intake manifold?
I can make up to 371 rwhp without breaking out of my time trial class, so I want to get pretty close to that number. In the low 360's would be good.
I drive the car to the events, so I need a streetable cam...
TIA!

My '01 LS1 made 345 with:
-224/.575 single pattern cam
-Matching beehive springs
-RH headers
-Too small of an air intake
I honestly think i'll be a little closer to 380 once i get a real air intake on there and a solid tune.

I think the best way to go around it would be to use a pair of 243 or 799 heads, new springs, ls6 intake and a mild cam. If money is tight I'd go for a ls6 intake and a mild cam and see what it'll do. If you really want to go cheap...get a hold of a used ls6 intake, ls6 TB and ls6 cam and you could possibly squeak by. You have to get a good tune. It'll really make or break this setup.

what would the stock cam and ls6 intake run with a set of ls6 heads? I have the heads now but got to get the bottom rebuilt befor I can assemble. Just curious on the performance gains.

Its usually around 15hp with no other work. But if you're going through the hassle, why not do it up right? At least mill the heads, new springs, and a slightly more aggressive cam. I mean a ls6 cam would give you a little more umph. But that's just my take on it. I'd just rather do the engine up right the first time and not have to worry about pulling it and rebuilding it. But that's why I don't have a car build and only a engine in the works.

Oh I didnt explain the heads. I have a set of rebuilt heads I picked up for machine cost that has dual comp springs in them now. The only other thing I would have to do is get a cam, but that will have to wait until later.

The later LS1's ('01+ IIRC) come stock with the LS6 intake. Just google the PN on the manifold to see if it's what you've got.

So if I buy a later LS1, I get a better intake. Sounds like a plan. Are all the LS1's equipped with throttle cable t-bodies?

I have heard some are drive by wire, the LS1 I pulled out of a 2001 camaro had a cable.

Is a custom throttle body cable needed, or do you reuse the 944 cable, or the LS1 cable?

i am not sure how the Kit 944v8s is. The Renegade Kit came with a custom cable that is inside a steel braided line.

There's a braided steel throttle cable that a lot of us are using. I don't remember the PN, you'll have to search or see if it's in the manual.

If you really want really detailed cam (lobe, lift, duration) information and exact numbers, ask these questions on ls1tech or even search it. Generally these guys are hardcore drag racers but they usually know their stuff.

Pick up Hot Rod mag , the Sept 2010 issue, they have a write up about mild LS1 build.
