HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Late 944 Cowl Cover Alternatives
I removed my HVAC blower since I use a vintage air HVAC system that only recirculates cabin air. I now have this unsightly void in my fishbowl area that I would like to cover. My old cowl is in pieces and doesn't cover my heater core valve. I would rather not replace it with an almost $200 new part or another used fragile one. I also dislike that I need to pull the wipers and pry at the double sided tape to get that thing off. I have been playing around with making a 3d printed cover set that you attach together but trying to print such a large piece with a material that will hold up to the heat, not warp, and resist the elements is not that easy. I guess I can make a cover out of aluminum but that large of a curving area will also be challenging. My new plan is to 3d print some negative molds, and make a 1 piece 2 ply fiberglass cover and attach with a few fasteners/nutplates and zipties to one of my hoses and wiring harness.
Anyone done something to cover this area that was not a huge undertaking and turned out fairly well? I already spent way to much time CAD modeling a solution but I'm still not satisfied with my approach. Any ideas are appreciated.

I use the stock cover and slot the holes for the wipers and use velcro instead of double side tape.

I like the idea of velcro, you haven't had problems with the hook portion becoming loaded with debris? I will still need to cover the area where the battery was located and re-route the water drain to farther outboard so it does not pour on my heater core valve. It pains me to buy a panel for 200 and immediately start hacking it apart.

No debris build up. As far as hacking, you are only cutting to small pieces out where the wiper holes are.

Re: Late 944 Cowl Cover Alternatives
I finally finished my cover and completed the install. I used a mold that I 3d printed then laid 2 plys of fiberglass with polyester resin. Its secured with two zipties and 3M dual lock 250 strips. In retrospect should have used a vacuum & bag do reduce the voids in the composite, less filler and less sanding would have saved me a lot of time. Its not perfect but it turned out ok. Covers up all the crap and keep the rain water flowing to the sides.
