For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Transaxle indentifacation
I have a 1964 Corvair that is a V8 mid engine conversion. I was told the transaxle that was used is out of a 944 Turbo. It is an automatic. It was installed using an adapter between the engine and transaxle. I'm not 100% sure what the transaxle is, could somebody post a pic of what a 944 Turbo transaxle looks like, or tell.me how to identify it?

Re: Transaxle indentifacation
Since I posted this question, I did some more looking around on the internet and found a website that talks about the 944 auto trans.
That looks like what I have. This question came up because I was trying to find out what starter is used. The car has what I was told is an adapter made by Kennedy, I called them, they stated they don't make an adapter for a 944. So maybe I'll call them back and ask about an adapter for a 951.

Starter on a 944 is bolted the to the clutch bellhousing on the engine. No starter on the trans as it's in the back of the car.

That looks like a 944 auto trans. Surprised it is still working. They were only good for about 170ish horsepower before they broke. All 944 turbos came with manual transmissions

Re: Transaxle indentifacation
I was told the trans was rebuilt and beefed up by German Transaxle of America to be able to be used in this application. I have no proof of that, other than it appears to be all new, car has only been driven a few miles since finished. I didn't buy the car from the builder, I wish I could track him down and ask some questions, still pursuing that.

Re: Transaxle indentifacation
A few more pictures from the side and also top of the transaxle might help with identifying the transaxle.
Only 944 NA models and 968 models came with automatic transmissions.
