HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Good Day

Looking for some advice on how to go about taking the motor out of my 83 I just purchased since I am not familiar with these cars. It has a leak where the line from the master cylinder goes into the bell-housing. I am under the car and see a tube that is bolted to the back of the bell-housing. The tube is connected to the bell-housing with the bolt heads being on the inside of the bell-housing.

Thanks,
Ed

Sounds like the hydraulic throwout bearing is leaking. You'll have to take the engine out to get to it. You could also take the transmission and torque tube out too. I'm not sure which would be easier; I feel your pain! I had the same thing happen and I had to replace some 50cent o rings in mine.

My trouble is figuring out the motor removal. Is there a splined shaft inside the torque tube that goes into the clutch disk? I am just trying to figure out how this was put together. The bolts holding the bell-housing to the torque tube are from inside the bell-housing. So if I take the motor out what is suppose to stay on the motor?

Yes there's a shaft inside the torque tube that goes into the clutch disk. With the engine supported on a hoist; unbolt the bellhousing from the motor, unbolt the motor mounts, drop the cross member, drain & remove rad/fans and remove the headlight bar. You'll have to "wiggle" the engine a bit to free it up from the bellhousing. Also a 4ft. piece of 2 x 4 may give you some leverage to pry it away from the bellhousing.

Thank you kindly for tips. Can I keep your number handy for when it is time to put it back in?

You can PM me if you're really stuck. Install will just be the reverse. I forgot to mention you'll need to remove the front half of the exhaust & exhaust mainfolds, throttle linkage & fuel lines too. You'll figure it out as you go.... Just keep track of what goes where. You could even take some pictures to help you remember. You'll know your car inside and out when you're done that's for sure!
