HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

A couple months ago I put coilovers in the back of my '84 to up the spring rates without having to index torsion bars. I did this with Bilstein shocks, Bilstein sleeves, and Hyperco 1⅞" springs.

This is possible, and also a huge pain in the ass. It would probably be easier to get aluminum arms to swap in. The parts just barely clear after spacing out the upper pockets and moving the top of the shock inboard by about 1/4", cutting the sleeve on the lower eye and spacing that inboard about the same, grinding the top corners of the pockets on the arms, and cutting the rubber isolators that go on the tops of the banana arms. I'm also pretty much limited to the spring rate I have now, which works out to about 250lb/in at the wheel, since availability of stiffer springs seems about non-existent.

I'm glad I have better spring rates than I did, but I probably wouldn't do it again. Just wanted to post this here in case anybody is looking for info on it since there doesn't seem to be much out there for the early cars.
