HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

944 and LS1 Cam Options
Hey guys, I'm currently building my LS1 to be put into my 924S with Carrera GTS kit. This is my first swapped car ever and my first V8. I have installed a turbo trans and my car is now unbelievably slow with my 2.5L in it. I’ve read through hours upon hours of LS forums regarding cams. However, my concern regards gearing. I’m planning on installing either an F13 or F14 cam both on a 112 LSA. Everyone says get the F13 if you don’t run 4.11s for the F14. My question is, since our cars are so much lighter and a different trans entirely am I going to suffer the same issues with bottom end power like the WS6/vette guys have with larger cams? Any help would be appreciated

Re: 944 and LS1 Cam Options
a few things to keep in mind here
weight- a swapped 944 will be under 3000 lbs, a vette or bird can be 3400 lbs.
trans ratios- first gear in a t56 is 2.66, or 2.97 in a z06. our first gear is 3.50.
tire size- our cars typically are 25" diameter tire, where a vette is 27" and a camaro is 26.5"
that all equates to some big differences. when considering the gearing and tire size, our cars (3.5 low gear, 3.38 final drive and 25" tire) would compare similarly to a corvette with 4.11 gears.
one piece of advice id give you is to be a little conservative with cam choice. driving a light car with a huge cam and a stick isnt always the most enjoyable. in general on a street car people tend to run more camshaft than needed, i like to tell people to pick the cam they think they need, then buy the next one down.

Re: 944 and LS1 Cam Options
Thanks Sharkey for the response, this was exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I'm having issues trying to figure exactly what size cam to fit since I have no frame of reference of how drivable/how fast different cams are coming from the 2.5L.
Couple of questions for you:
Is the cam able to be swapped out of a 944 without pulling the motor/lowering it?
If I were to run a 245 40 15 R Compound will I be able to actually put the power down assuming about 400whp?
The car is going to be used mostly for pretty aggressive canyon carving but will see a quite a bit of autox/track time.

re; camshaft
I installed a Brian Tooley stage II truck torque cam in my conversion (stock 5.3 LM4) and I'm extremely pleased with it. Sharkey is correct. Bigger is not necessarily better on the street. You might have to lower the engine to get the cam past the front bumper structure.

Re: 944 and LS1 Cam Options
Thanks for the help thats extremely helpful. This is far from my daily driver and will see a majority of its time on the track but i just dont want a ton of bucking on the street. Thanks for both your inputs its hard to decide as I am also looking at putting a turbo behind the bumper under the headlight bucket for future power wants/needs vs an Na build.

I have a 'baby' cam in my 5.3l swap: 25-TSP216220R6114 - Texas Speed Stage 3 Truck High Lift Camshaft: 216/220, .600/.600, 114 LSA, 112 ICL
Barely any lope at all, excellent street manners.
