For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

boxster transaxle swap?
was bored tonight, looking at different transaxles when i had a thought, what about using a boxster transaxle in a 944? obviously there would be some adapting needed, a bellhousing adapter, something done for the trans mount. a quick look shows the clutch in a boxster is the same 1" 23 spline as the 944 clutch, assuming the trans input shaft on the 944 box is the same as the clutch spline using the existing coupler may be possible, or a modified version of it. shifter and cables from the boxster might be useable.
a quick search showed the 6 speed was a getrag built trans and it sounded like it was quite strong. i dont know if its actually feasable, just something that came to mind and i thought may be worth a discussion.

Re: boxster transaxle swap?
I have read of going the other way. 944 transmission into a Boxster. I think there are some minor differences with the 6 speed units.
This sounds good:

1.9L Passat TDI transmission.
6 speed with a 0.56 6th gear ratio. Sounds relatively strong too. I don't know what the availability in the US is though?
