For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Cleaned and refined, using marc a's PHB instructional.
(...hope you don't mind Marc, as I may include this in a Manual revision)

Re: 5th Gear Swap (.pdf)
Yours looks a lot prettier than the one i was going to send!
However...i don't mean to be rude, but yours has a lot of incorrect information. It looks like you mixed up some of Marc's directions regarding accidental removal of the slider (which causes a significant amount more work).
I'll spare you the details and just get mine sent off tonight. It's based heavily on Marc's, but has a few tricks and some information that his didn't. He definitely deserves credit for the whole thing...i wouldn't have even attempted mine without it!

Re: 5th Gear Swap (.pdf)
Thanks Chris...
Not trying to be a pushy ol' cuss...I was just looking @ the Porsche 944 service manual & realized there are a few changes due. Reason 1 for not being in the First Edition...
(I meant to weed out the slider info, but it was about 4:00 AM...
Shoulda been sleepin'...)
It's down until updated...

Re: 5th Gear Swap (.pdf)
Oh, no problem at all! It really does look great! Let's just get the instructions straightened out and it'll be good to go
Normally i'm more reliable, but i had a friend from the Netherlands show up unexpectedly on monday night, then had to throw a little going away party for him last night...so my schedule is totally out of whack!

Late NA 5th gear?
My project car is an 87S, I have a 86 Turbo transaxle that will go in the car, that I plan to put a ATB diff in. I also have my wrecked 89 944NA that I take the ocassional part from. It appears the 89 has the same 5th gear ratio as the early NA, but I seem to remember someone, maybe Marc A said it wouldn't work, thinner or thicker, can't remember. Anybody know if I have to source an early 5th gear, or can use the one from my 89NA?

Re: 5th Gear Swap (.pdf)
After reading through the 2 links, it seems they were no help. '87 & '89 should be considered the
same if the transaxle codes are the same. Marc a used the early 5th in an '86 trans...'87 & '89 are "late".
The difference, if any, would probably be early vs. late.
Sorry,
I'm blank on this one...
Here's the codes anyway...

Re: 5th Gear Swap (.pdf)
Hey Greg, thanks for the links, since I have the 86 turbo transaxle, it seems like I need to get the early NA 5th. I'm going to dig some more, I need to get the part number off my 89 to double check. If Marc A used the early gear in his 86, then that's a known good combo. I have 3 transaxles and it seems I need a fourth!

The 5th gear was revised, but without seeing the two gears side by side, who knows. Because the other parts (clutch hub, synchroniser, and detent) are the same, I'm going with the idea that they will interchange. The revision # is the only part of the part number that changed...
Need to see both early and late gears. My bet is on "same ol', same ol'"...
