HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

944 5.3 swap wiring
So I got the harness reduced down to size thanks to lt1swap.com and now I'm lost. Call me stupid but how do I hook up all the Porsche stuff i.e. gauges, radio, and all that misc stuff to the harness?

A car generally has 2 harnesses, engine and body. They usually meet in only a few places, in the 944 that's a couple small connectors behind the glove box and a big one on the firewall above the clutch master. You should leave the 944 body harness and splice your new engine harness in at those locations.

Thanks rich that was very helpful. What about the headlight wiring in the bay along with the wiper motor. Where do all these connections splice into the new harness? Also I don't get why they would. So the ecu controls the porsche stuff?

Re: 944 5.3 swap wiring
Mine is a late n/a 944. When I pulled the engine I also removed the engine wiring harness. But I left the body harness including the bundle of wires that goes forward high on the driver side to the lights, headlight motor and the alternator trigger. I left the original fuse box and all of the wiring behind the dash. By leaving all of that stuff, the new LS engine harness has nothing to do with operating lights, HVAC, radio, etc.
I removed The engine ECU and it's big bundle of wires that passes through the firewall by the battery, that's the engine harness. The big cables to the block, alternator and starter I pulled out too but these I reinstalled later with the LS1. And the LS1 engine harness I added with the Chevy PCM. I should mention, the engine harness I used was from Painless Wiring. It's a "stand-alone" harness that does nothing but run the engine.
I also added to the block senders for oil pressure and water temperature with new wires to the connector locations I mentioned before. Details for the tach, oil pressure, water temperature, fuel pump, etc. are given in the "Wiki" section.

Is the ''wiki'' section you speak of the pdf manual thing? or is it located some where else?
