HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

G31 Transaxle Empty G31 Transaxle

Post  Red944ls1 Fri Jan 17, 2014 10:34 pm

I was looking at the 5th gear ratio of the G31 Transaxle and it looks to be .60. Does anyone know if the 5th gear is interchangeable with the 86 951 Transmission 5th gear. I have read where it was interchangeable with some Audi gear sets. I am thinking this would give an even better cruising RPM.

I have a 1980 924 Turbo (931) with the snail shell transaxle that I am not using so I figure it would be a nice upgrade.

Thoughts.

I don't believe those gears will fit in the 083 style boxes.
You can use an NA 944 0.73 5th gear Vs the 0.83 already in the Turbo box to reduce rpms. IIRC there are some European Audi boxes which use a 0.64 5th, they are very rare; I don't know if anyone has tried installing one in a 944 box...
Try using the advanced search function above, there has been a lot of talk about this over the years...

All the talk of using early n/a fifth gear or early 80's audi 5000 diesel fifth, Did anyone every research getting a custom fifth gear ratio cut by an outside source? Albins in Australia, California motor sports, Mike Monson at Guard transmission??

The G31 gears will not fit. They are completely different.

As for the Euro 0.63, if you can find one it should fit as long as it is from an 016.

Albins only makes shorter 5th gears 1.0 and 0.96. (sold by California Motorsports) --and very expensive.

The most reasonable choice is the 0.73.
