Re: Building a LS1 968 track day project car
Nice build. Way to execute the whole concept from your minds eye to reality. i see you like the e30 m3too. I am building a v8 e30 m3 right now, with 951 transaxle for improved weight bias over the front trans. set up. I hope my vision looks as good in reality as your 968 turned out. Thanks for sharing!

The only reason keep me from E30 M3 is the price...... Is getting tooo far out to reach
n i am track nuts i want to build whole my car to track
so E30 m3 idea is kinda fade out ..............

Been a while since update of the car ...
was very busy on my race season( RX-7)
so 968 get put away for while
but i discover a very bad leak from water pump area.... this can be a gasket or pump
but decide not to take chance so order new highflow pump and gasket !!
but i find out in hardway i need two gasket instead of one n new pully...................
so i guess i will need to wait on part for a bit longer
mabe change Type 1 power steering pump all togeter ?? since my PS line have some minor leak too

after bit a thinking a measure
I figure if i grind down the 04 up thermostat down to 42mm. i can be able to fit the thermo into 02 housing.. after some spark flying n elbow grease . i think the result went pretty good !!

Re: Building a LS1 968 track day project car
Some view you dont see every day. took my 968 to track this weekend, not because i want to show off . is because i get hire to be a driving coach for locoal racing school
since this is rare chance, so i ask my friend to help me take some shot of my 968 at track during my Taxi session
But one thing that kind da bother me is . the brake. I use bmw hydro boost on my car
and is not very consitant !!! the pedal can go up n down or with how much you turn the steering wheel
that is big NO NO for a fast lap time !!. i am still use stock LS pump will TYPE one pump help ? or
is some thing wrong on my hydro system

Interesting question on the LS1 pump versus the Turn One pump. That's not good on the inconsistent pedal feel. How does your steering feel? Others have stated the Turn One pump keeps the fluid from overheating. Do you monitor ps fluid temps?
I'm just finishing putting together a power steering system with the LS1 pump. Lemming is putting in the Mustang hydroboost system also with the LS1 pump. We'll have to both report back.
By the way, your car looks great!

Mine will not have power steering, just hydroboost. Even with that, I'm waiting on a good cooler to get here before I can plumb my system.

Well to tell you the true. i been driving none power brake on the race track since 2000 n love that consistant pedal feel.and as for my 968 the steering feel n pedal feel will change depend on the engine speed, or steering angle n power steering temp so
i dont really like that , no confident at all............. specialy on race track
but when i drove my friend 993 turbo on the parking lot it get the similar feel of that pedal feel
if i am doing again i will keep the power steering but do the manual brake~ to hard to done it right in my opion

Re: Building a LS1 968 track day project car
Agreed on brake feel. I have a Tilton pedal box for fully manual brakes in my 944v8 and love it. But the manual steering has been too much effort. I struggle to finish a hot lapping day.
Today I took the car out for the first time with the original power steering rack and the LS1 pump. The steering feel is consistent but very light, too light in my opinion. And the fluid heated up to 220 F in just a few quick laps. Dang!
Guess I'm spending the $$ for the Turn One pump.

Re: Building a LS1 968 track day project car
Get the pump install along with Compcam tensior
first thought. althought steering is a bit hever then factory one. but it seen to be in low speed u turn
when i apply brake n turning steering wheel. with factory pump you can almost stall the car!!!!
but this did not happend on the Turn one pump, same thing on apply brake on very low RPM, before the new pump you can feel the car almost stall too
i am bring the car out to have some track testing. hopely can improve the brake feel at track condion
which is one of most concern area of my car
