HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

New Player, New Project
Firstly, Moderators feel free to relocate this, I couldn't find an introduction oriented subforum and I hate ghosting forums.
So, my name is Kevin and I am in Denver, CO, newly stationed here at Buckley. I am married with a child on the way, due late September. I DD a 1983 944 that has recently started tanking. She was abused before I picked her up a year and a half ago but she has served me well and very faithfully, but there's only so much life left.
Within the month, if all goes according to plan, she will be tucked away out of site of my apartment managers, inside my rented garage. I may find a self storage with good security to work out of, I havent decided yet. Either way, I feel that the best way to ensure her survival is to drop in an LSx. The road will be long and arduous, with far more time spent saving and part picking than actually working. I'm quite alright with that, because there is a ton that can be done to her short term, and of course gobs in the long term. I am ordering the book on these swaps on Friday, to begin proper information herding and research.
I would like to do everything that can be done without the engine kit first, such as braking, suspension, engine obtaining / rebuilding, lighting upgrades, interior changes, etc, with paint coming dead last.
I may not be the most active member, especially considering I know nothing that everyone here doesn't know already, but I will be using this for its information quite often!
Thank you all for this amazing resource, and I will continue to post on the progress as it happens, as slow as that may be!

I'm local to you and work on Buckley as a reservist. Occasionally I bring my LS1 swapped 951 on base. Drop me a note if you want to get together and check out the car. It's sleeping in the garage now because of all our recent snow...

If you're talking about the book I think you're talking about, you should be aware that almost assuredly you will send your money, not get the book, and not get your money back.Monitor wrote: I am ordering the book on these swaps on Friday, to begin proper information herding and research.
I'm sure some others will chime in here, but you really need to avoid that particular character. His name is now a verb to many here, as in: "I got Sloaned."

Do NOT order the "manual" or anything else from Greg Sloan. Several people here are still waiting for parts that they ordered years ago from him and are out significant sums of money.

Order the book, it will help him get the money back he owes me. Just in case your sarcasm hat isn't on, you will never get the book if you order it. I am surprised he still has PayPal privileges. Where is the link you are ordering this from?

I think what people are saying is that use this board together with the Wiki as your resources.
For the LSx, together with the wizards here, LS1Tech.com is a good source for LSx knowledge.
Doc's conversion is awesome and will provide a great illustrated instruction book.
Good luck.

Re: New Player, New Project
Hello again! This is OP. I didn't realize I had a username registered here already, having promptly forgotten about it once I registered.
Quick update: the 944 mentioned above was stolen and never recovered in 2013, I went to Korea in 2014 followed by Germany until last year, and now I'm operating out of St Louis with a 968 that's waiting on most of Kent's kit (and a few other odds and ends) to show up. Engine pulling will hopefully occur the weekend of April 13th, assuming my Monster is finished being prepped for DD duty while the swap is underway. You'll start seeing some threads pop up between now and then as I finalize what I'm doing and reading through whatever documentation Kent sends me. I will, of course, chronicle everything with lots of pictures and an official "I did this" thread for the other 968 folks out there.
Also, I did in fact get Sloan'd.
