HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Looks like those have a pretty small offset--are we going to be able to clear the caliper from the wheel spokes?
At any rate, i'm excited about these

On Turbo Twist 2's they'll clear with 5-6mm left.
I'm digging them too. They make the Turbo rotors look like they have E.D.
The Wilwoods will get a work-out.....

Quite nice, but is it 330mm or 300mm?

It's a true 13" rotor (330mm). This same size rotor would run $450/set as a rotor and hat combo.

Re: Wilwood 330mm Big Brake kit for NA cars
I need an 87-up Turbo spindle to mock these up on those 94mm axial ears. These will be some funny looking brackets and I will make them out of 4130 steel and lighten them. Centering rings are needed like the BoxsterS rotors needed for 100% bolt-on OR when you buy the Rotors , you can drill the 944 setscrew PCD of 136mm. I am spinning some out on the lathe as I'm typing this, will post pcs later.

Seeing as I am going to have to update my spindles from the stuff I have whatever spindle you say is ideal is fine with me!

Re: Wilwood 330mm Big Brake kit for NA cars
This kit is a reality. 87-up NA spindles (INEXPENSIVE) vs. The Turbo spindles. I'm beginning to wonder how the Turbo spindle adapter would work out because the Wilwood caliper is rotated upwards (downwards would interfere with the LCA possibly). I bolted a lower strut housing up and it clears by a mile. The Wilwoods are better than the Turbo caliper ears because they are formed to where no grinding needs to take place...AKA 100% bolt-on, no modding...Centering rings are needed for this mega rotor. The 928 guys calculated 1mm off true concentricity would be like missing 1.5oz wheel weight....
Prototype bracket is done and the mirror bracket for the passenger side will be transfered to the CNC and the brackets will be shortened at the thru bolts when going to 4130 steel (will clear strut/spindle top bolt even more and factory M12 x 1.5 bolts re-used with this design)....
Posted the wilwood calp dim offset to wheel mating so you wheel gurus can figure the various wheels....
A complete set with 6061-t6 centering rings will be $225 shipped anywhere in the U.S.
I calculated a 1.62" (41mm) x 4 piston Wilwood caliper is corect for the factory MC and rear brakes. Call Wilwood if you are running Dual MC's for MC sizing etc.....

Does anyone know the flex-line fitting to hard-line fitting size/type in the fenderwell?
And how long was the factory line?

Did you ever get this line figured out? I know that Renbay has a wilwood kit for the stock rotor that would probably use the same lines.

Re: Wilwood 330mm Big Brake kit for NA cars
Haven't heard anything back. I have SS lines on my Lexus/Boxster Brakes and thought the line was M10x1.0 Bubble flare but not 100% sure. The Wilwoods are 1/8-27 NPT to -3AN male so the line would need to be -3AN female to the female P-car threading/seat. I will only be selling the adapters and centering rings, lines and rotors can be bought cheaply anyways. I'm backed up at my shop right now doing Trans mounts because of the blizzard last week then I'll CNC the final adapter design.in steel and get the price down to $200. When it's all done and said you can have the baddest brakes, rotors and a multitude of pads for around $700
Here's the Set That Wilwood suggested with factory MC (calp piston size 41mm)....

Had this one on the back burner too long and getting close to the final design. I'm Going to Re-tap the Wilwood Bolts for M10 x 1.5 and keep it all metric since we are driving Porsches

Re: Wilwood 330mm Big Brake kit for NA cars
xschop,
Is it possible to fit this brake upgrade on an 944 -85.5 (small ET)? What parts do I need to change/buy??
Is it possible to use the 16" teledial rim after the ugrade? What should be done to the rearbrakes to match the front brakes after this kind of upgrade?

I have an 85.5. I put 87 NA spindles hubs on mine. You need to change the control arms to late offset, or do the Strut mod I posted here. The rears you can put on 951 calipers with 2-3mm shims and call it a day.

Re: Wilwood 330mm Big Brake kit for NA cars
I just looked at the tech drawing for the Cayenne rotor and if you wanted to machine the early hub O.D. to a tight fit, it would work for the early NA hub/spindle. You would also have to add 6mm spacers between the adapter and caliper..... I haven't tried this on a 16" phony, but not ruling it out either as the Turbo 951 brakes go under the 15" phonies with 951 part#'s

Re: Wilwood 330mm Big Brake kit for NA cars
This is an area that I thought I would get it when it was time for brakes but I think improvements are going faster than I am finding parts for my project and I am getting left behind.
This is what I have: donor body 84' 944, changing out complete rear end from a 86' turbo with a lot of parts help from xschop for the matching tranny, have 2-brembo four-puck 86' turbo calipers, have the 86' turbo lower control arms with early off-set if I was told correctly. Am I doing okay so far? The front spindles are the 84' N/A with matching calipers as well.
The 944 has 15" non-phone dial wheels. Gotta do it this as the other word may not get caught be spell checker.
For rims I have 84' corvette rims which are so available because I'm not driving it. I realize that I would need lug adapters. Am I still going in a good direction with this set up or do I need to re-think it all and go with something different?

Re: Wilwood 330mm Big Brake kit for NA cars
From the schematic on ebay for the calipers - looks like the superlights on 330mm would be 182.4mm radius, so 364.8mm diameter? I checked the 17" boxster turbo twists I have waiting to go on and seems like they'd fit: about 1/2-3/4" clearance around the outside and about 1/4" clearance on caliper to spokes.
I'd love to go with these but would have to figure out what direction to go on converting to late spindles on my '83.

Re: Wilwood 330mm Big Brake kit for NA cars
Tehone, keep the Turbo 4 pots since you have them, but you'll have to get 86T spindles/hubs/rotors/struts to match your early offset control arms. I don't like the 86T Hubs because they are notorious for failure, but you would have to change the front end to late control arms and struts to get the stronger late spindles/hubs on.

NA Spindles
Chad, I'll have a set of '87 n/a, late offset, non-abs spindles available soon. I know these are a dime a dozen on ebay but I'd love them to go to a fellow hybrid builder. Make me an offer if you want 'em.

I've got 2 adapter sets left and edited the price at $209 shipped (US-48) since the 8 bolts will run about $12 from the hardware store.

How they look on the car.
Here is a quick pic of how this brake kit actually looks installed behind 17in Cup wheels for those on the fence about them.

I got the wilwood calipers already, 18" wheels and late na spindles. What else would i need other than the adaptors? just rotors?
