HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

long tube header clearance
I am in the process of doing an LS1 conversion on my '87 turbo. I have run into a clearance problem on the passenger long tube header. It is hitting the castor mount by quite a bit. I did slightly dent one tube but still is hitting. Right now I have the motor as far to the drivers side as the crossmember play will allow. At this point the driver's side tubes are hitting the body.
The plan is to center the motor after what ever mods I need to do get done.
There was a post that mentioned loosening the motor mounts a bit a running the engine to let it settle into place. Sounds odd but may work.
Any ideas?
Has any body had this or similar problems with these headers?

So which headers are you using?
I just installed my engine yesterday with TPC long tube equal length headers made in 2013. I have plenty of clearance mostly everywhere except on the passenger side where the header pipes are tight with the starter and cylinder #6 header pipe is just barely touching the frame rail.
The cross-frame only has slotted holes on the driver's side so no real adjustment there for you. When you connect your torque tube, it will center the back of the engine where it needs to be and that may change your clearances. There is some "play" in the motor mount connections and running the engine briefly with the bolts not fully tightened could normalize the final position of the engine.
There is not much wiggle room with this swap!!

Re: long tube header clearance
9turbo51, make sure you have the left and right engine mounts on the correct side. It's surprisingly easy to get them backwards and get the engine located in the wrong spot. I did it at first...

Re: long tube header clearance
I had the same problem, cut off wheel solved it, 45deg cut off the edge of the mount. You won't hurt anything there is plenty of "meat" there. I have solid engine mounts. Sorry no pic car is put away for the winter.
