HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

944 N/A Transmission
Hey Guys,
I'm planning on doing an LS Swap. I was reading up on the site about the NA transmission being weak in the ring/pinion area and was wondering if I put an LSD with some hardened gears in there thta would solve the problem? If so,.. where can I get an LSD that would fit in the '83 box?
Cheers!

Re: 944 N/A Transmission
all limited slip diffs are essentially the same for these transmissions. however i wouldnt waste your time doing anything with the n/a transaxle, they are weak by design. the main problem is the physical size of the gear teeth on the ring and pinion, they tend to break the teeth off the pinion. there are no stronger geatsets for the n/a transaxles. the final drive ratio is also wrong for a v8 swap, the 3.88 doesnt work very well.
your best bet is a turbo transaxle. it has a stronger ring and pinion, a reinforced mid case, and a better gear ratio (3.38). in fact even better is to get one with a factory limited slip, and then swap the n/a trans 5th gear into it along with the case stiffening plate. thats the combo most use for a v8 swap.
