HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

First post here and not trying to start a flame war, but how does a 944 compare to the C5? I went and looked at a 944 shell today but it was a basket case and the seller wouldn't budge on the price, even with the wilwood brakes.

But anyways, i realize these cars are 35 years old and the bushing and shocks are likely shot so those would need to be replaced. But if one were to replace those parts how does it compare to the C5. I've done some napkin math on the cost and it gets close to a C5 but most get the enjoyment of building their own car and that being theirs.

But yeah just curious on the handling.
Drove an FD about 20 years ago and that car has stuck with me forever.

It will certainly depend on what all you do to the suspension and what you want to use it for. If you're talking autocross, the extra width of a Corvette is going to be a consideration, but it wouldn't be for road racing, for example.

Is the car you're looking at a red one listed on Craig's List for $1800?

the price of a blown engine car really depends on the condition and what it is. ive heard of guys paying $800 for a complete car thats just been left under a tree. your going to pay more for a turbo car, however if your planing an ls swap your going to need the turbo transaxle, and they cost anywhere from $1000+, so keep that thought in your mind.

i really dont find most of the parts for these cars that expensive. sure, if your gonna buy new stuff from porsche, sure, its gonna cost you, thats porsche tax. for my project ive bought good used and from other vendors, and the prices are what id expect to pay for any 30+ year old car thats not the most common.
