For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

LT low mount alternator only bracket with 1 5/16" thick camaro balancer?
Hey guys, I need help figuring out which is the correct bracket to use for my LT4 if I want to run only the alternator. Am correct in my understanding that there are three different water pump setups for LT's; the regular pump, the "short" pump, and an electric pump, and that all three require different alternator only brackets? Further, am I correct in my understanding that SBC accessory brackets will not work on my LT?
I have an electric water pump, and have seen 4 different brackets.
This is the alan grove unit, its pricey for what it is: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
there is also this PCM bracket: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The price is right on this ebay bracket, but it says its for a SBC, which confuses me because it looks just like the PCM bracket: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
finally I found this amazon bracket which looks just like the one above and says its designed for use with an electric water pump, but again says its for a SBC: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
which of these is the correct one? Thanks so much for any help guys; this is the last piece of my puzzle before I can daily drive the car.

the alan grove one is the one I used. You need a CS130 alternator though.

Any idea what vehicles they came on, besides the astro vans?
edit: picked one up from the parts store, $55 with a lifetime warranty. I asked for an alternator from a 1990 corvette. will I need a wiring harness adapter?

The stock large body alternator on my 96 LT1 block should be a CS144, is that correct? Is the pigtail the same as the CS130? Sorry for asking nooby questions, I'm not that familiar with SBC stuff.

you bought the wrong alternator (mounting points need to be at 6 & 10 o'clock if you use that bracket)....... You will also need a LT1 corvette balancer
you need a 90-93 4.3 S10 alternator or 5.7L BLAZER 89-94

Thanks Spence, I'll return it and buy the correct one. I dont know about the harmonic balancer, it's aftermarket so maybe it'll work? A new stock replacement one from the parts store is $80. Also, I am not going to be using the Alan Grove bracket; thats way too expensive for a cnc'd piece of metal. All the low mount brackets I would assume are similar, so am I safe in assuming the S10 alternator will work with any bracket I choose/fab?

Then if you make your own bracket you can use whatever alternator you want.

Re: LT low mount alternator only bracket with 1 5/16" thick camaro balancer?
I'm surprised no one has corrected me yet, do they even make electric water pumps for LT's? I have a stock cam driven pump. Anyway, still getting familiar with this engine. Have some new things to report, and some more questions.
My motor evidently has the Chevy Performance Hot Cam kit. This is a 218/228, .525/.525 on a 112 LSA cam, with the springs and 1.6 aluminum roller rockers. It also has an ATI super damper, which I don't think is the Corvette style balance because it measured roughly 1 5/16" thick instead of the 2 1/8" balancer that I think the corvette has. Are there any low mount alternator brackets that work with the 1 5/16" damper? A new damper is over $300 so I really dont want to have to replace that. I currently have in my inventory a CS144 stock LT1 alternator, and a CS130 unit with the 6 o clock and 10 o clock mounting ears to choose from. I'm just looking for the cheapest combo of parts that will allow me to run alternator only.

they do make an electric water pump for the lt1. basicly you take all the guts out of a stock pump and it bolts on in place of the cover on the front.

I have an electric water pump too (it doesn't have anything to do with the alternator).
I have a corvette balancer Im not using if you want to buy it from me

Re: LT low mount alternator only bracket with 1 5/16" thick camaro balancer?
How much? Honestly do I really need it? Why can't I just use different length spacers on the alternator to get it to line up properly? We're talking about 3/4" difference here...
Also what is yalls reasoning for an electric pump? I can't see how that's more reliable than a gear driven pump. As long as the engine is running, it's cooling and it isnt like there is a belt or even a chain to fail (unless the timing chain fails I guess, in which case you have bigger issues than worrying about your water pump).

some people claim up to 10hp gains from an electric pump. you also have the added benifit of allowing the pump to run and circulate coolant after the engine is shut off to help cool it down quicker. really for a street car its not needed.

I went ahead and ordered this bracket designed for a gen 1 SBC. $34.99 shipped to my door vs $90 for the Alan Grove and $130!! for the PCM unit.

The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was very helpful; I told him my situation (he was very interested in the swap!) and told him I was running the thinner 1 3/8" F body balancer. He said the bracket was physically the same as the LT1 specific bracket but warned me the supplied bolts and spacers with the kit were probably going to be too long. No problem, I can cut the spacers down and order new bolts. He didnt forsee any issue with using the narrow balancer, he said the same thing I was thinking which is that I can just space everything out so that it works. I'll let yall know how the fitment is.
