The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Long, Short and intermediate 5th Gears ...... Trade?
I have several Long 37:27 (0.7297) and Intermediate 36:28 (0.778) 5th gear sets which I would like to trade for Short 35:29 (0.829) 5th gear sets from 944 Turbo Transmissions. Is anyone interested?

I am interested. My box is at the builder now and could have the gears shipped when I get them back. Email me at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] if you still have these. Thanks!

Okie dokie. Let me work on getting it out then. Didn't want to start down the road unless someone was sure. I should have it ready to go this weekend.

John,
Sorry but I'm going to back out of the trade. I didn't realize the short gear set I have was actually worth any $$$.
Hate to do that to you but I need all the extra cash I can get with this project. Best of luck to you

Okay that's kinda what I thought. I was just worried because I saw other photos that had the slot in different locations on the gears.
Thanks

typically they put them there for identifying them. in different transmissions ive seen some with 1 2 or even 3 marks, and in different places on the gears. often its for different ratios, but can also be for gears of the same ratio that have a different tooth angle.

Re: Long, Short and intermediate 5th Gears ...... Trade?
Has anyone had extreme resistance pulling off the fixed 5th gear? I got mine to move a couple MM before it broke my first gear puller. I wasn't surprised since the jaws were very skinny cast items. But then last night I spend an hour or so modifying a new puller to make the jaws fit and the gear has so much resistance coming off the spline that it bent the threaded portion of the puller!
I don't know what the heck is going on!

I have had a few 5th gears give me trouble coming off. Most of the time, no dofficulty, but I remember one that was much tougher. I was parting a bunch of gear boxes I had accumulated over the years and thought it strange that most came apart easily but one did not. I think I broke out the propane torch, while the puller was already under tension, heated the gear, then applied more pressure with puller and gear finally slid off. I also used a very beefy SnapOn puller.

Re: Long, Short and intermediate 5th Gears ...... Trade?
bringing this back from the dead, wondering if anyone has a short or intermediate 5th gear set around. im looking at purchasing a turbo s box that already has the long 5th gear swap done, and with my swap the short gear set would be better.
