HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Looking for a good AOR w/LSD
Good day!
I am searching for an AOR w/LSD transmission.
I know there are many on Ebay, ect. however I'm asking the forum to help me get a quality, good unit from a person with a solid reputation.
Function and quality are the keys. I already have the gasket kit and a NA 5speed for the 5th gear ring, as well as poly mounts from Pelican. I will be rebuilding/reconditioning the exterior reguardless. That is why quality internals will be important.
Thanks in advance.

Another option...
If you have a good Turbo LSD trans and you are capable of doing a rebuild you might want to build it up instead of paying silly money for an AOR. The only real difference between the AOR and any other Turbo box is the shot peening of 1st and 2nd gear teeth on the input shaft and beefed up inner clutch plates, which can be bought brand new for about $330 and $100 respectively......this path could save you some cash and get you the trans you want.

After a couple of hours "window shopping" I believe you are on to something.
I have found AOR's are priced from $2500 to $5000, but most others are around $500.
I do not have a turbo trans yet. I only have the NA from my 1983, although I do plan on using the 5th gear.
I am in no way timid about gutting a manual transmission and building it back up.
What code transmissions would you recommend?

Re: Looking for a good AOR w/LSD
Lart sells AOR's for under $1500. Don't think I've ever seen an AOR sell for $2500-5000. Maybe $2500 if it has a Guards diff in it...

Re: Looking for a good AOR w/LSD
I have tried to contact Lart (Lart951) on Rennlist but have gotten no response.
He has been recommended by quite a few as the "goto" guy.
Is there a better way to get in contact with him?

Too much money unless it was just rebuilt by a pro. I paid $1500 for mine.

Re: Looking for a good AOR w/LSD
Any of the 016 series Turbo boxes, with a 3.375 final drive and LSD, would make for a good starting point if they can be found for cheap. They come in many different flavors, so look here to figure out which boxes have what.... [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
IIRC some of the NA 016/083 boxes have the same input shaft as the Turbo boxes (you should check part numbers to be sure). This could be a cheap way to build up a box too, from parts.
Also, you can find vendors that can bead/shot blast the gear teeth for you; which would be effective even on good used parts.
However, if you can get a good low mileage AOR for $1000 - $1500 all this effort might not be worth it?
Over the years I have bought, on Ebay, 2 turbo boxes for $340 and $400. One without an LSD and one with.....so they are out there.

Just out of curiosity...
Does anyone know "944reanimator" on Ebay?
Perhaps he/she is a forum member?
Any experiences?

If still looking, a 5R box has been on Pelican for a few days. His price is still high in my opinion, i would make an offer and see if you can get it down another $4-500.

Re: Looking for a good AOR w/LSD
AOR out of a 1989 Turbo S.
Only 57K miles (about the same as my engine).
Removed from vehicle that hit a deer, front damage only.
Clean (no leaks) and shifts like butter.
60 day, no questions asked warranty.
$1750 including shipping.
I found a few cheaper, but they were all well over 100k miles.
On a side note, I'll have a 5 speed NA non-LSD with a AOR 5th gear available soon, priced to sell
