HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: Convertion d'un francaise
bonjour tout le monde
J'ai une petite question:
pouvez vous me donner la différence de poids entre un moteur de Porsche et un moteur LS6,
et le poids d'un LSX 376
[img] [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] [/ img]
I'm very "hesitant" ( not decided) between those two engines ; these informations of weight were be decisive for my choice because I install all the elements/parts in front the engine in "carbon"
thanks and happy new year!

Re: Convertion d'un francaise
Hello everybody,
Ihave a question :
what is the difference of weight between a ls engine and a Porsche engine?
Maybe I have found an engine in France ; it's an engine of Hummer H2 2005;
Is it a good engine for the conversion?
Can I put a "wheele engine" on this engine
sorry for my bad english.... it's not easy to traduce technical english for me!!!....

There is a schematic of the plate in the conversion manual. I would scan it in, but it isn't really mine to post around. I'm sure that gt1scca can help you out with that one. The drawing is probably on this forum somewhere too. The plate is inserted between two of the housings in the transaxle, supposedly it helps keep the casing from fracturing under the increased torsional stress that the V8 can deliver to the drivetrain (more torque). I'm not sure at what torque levels this becomes necessary, but if you have the transaxle out already anyway it doesn't look like it will be too hard to do. I haven't done it yet, so I can't fairly say too much about it.
Here is a link to the installation procedure: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Good luck!!

Re: Convertion d'un francaise
You can't measure the cross member like that, The casting is different from one side to the other. The mounts are exactly the same dimensions from the mounting surface (the part that goes through the cross member) to the hole for the motor mount bolts. The motor mount has that gap , If you did m=not have a little play in there you would never get the motor and bolts in there.
If you want to double check the cross member, measure from the A arm bolt hole to the motor mount holes.

Re: Convertion d'un francaise
I have measurement the base of the cross-piece there are 10,4 centimetre on the left and on the right, l base plate is perfect

Re: Convertion d'un francaise
Hey Joe, the crossmembers on these cars vary where the motor mount holes are drilled. The fact that they are drilled on an angled surface complicates matters even more. But no worries as you can add shims to the bottom of the uprights and shims/washers at the rubber isolators between the "set-back plates". You can even slot the X-member motor mount holes inwards or outwards laterally to get some adjustment. I added 1/4" (7mm) washers at the top two isolator holes just on the driver's side to get more header clearance near the steering shaft. There will be some adjustments made on each individual car for manufacturing variance.....
Here's a method that I used to determine the differences on 2 of my own crossmembers and a few from the salvage yard.....

Re: Convertion d'un francaise
Cute kid, ready to help with the swap!
I see you have a pre-installed clutch Pressure plate and disc....
Do yourself a favor and install the motor at first with only the flywheel and pilot bearing and double check the Driveshaft tip pilot step to pilot bearing interface relation/distance. It should be 1/16" to 1/8" maximum (@ 2-4 mm). This is critical so you don't damage the torque tube shaft tip....
