HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

How to detach passenger side motor mount
Ok, total newbie embarking on a swap. I tried searching for answer but did not find.
I've got everything detached and ready to pull the motor
from the top, but the passenger side motor mount has me stumped.
Can anyone school me on the best way to free the motor from this mount?
Only interested in pulling the motor efficiently.

many thanks-

Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
I'm really not sure what to tell you. There's the main bolt through the sub frame that holds the mount in. Then there is an ear that fits into the subframe so you need to give it a twist/shim. Can you tell us more what you're having problems with?

Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
Apologies for vagueness.
Guess I'm asking which bolt(s) needs to be removed
to allow the engine to be pulled from the top.
Can I just detach the mount from subframe (two bolts facing downwards?) or do I need to
detach the mount from the block as well, which seems to
necessitate removing the exhaust manifold.
Wish I had a cross section view of the motor mount assembly
on the passenger side but can't seem to find one.
Drivers side was easy, but passenger side seems to much different in structure.
Looking to unbolt the least amount necessary to pull the motor upwards and out.
Thanks-

Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
Yeah, first place I went. Followed the steps but disconnect procedure for passenger side motor
mount was geared more toward replacement of a bad mount, and I just want the fastest way to yank the motor out in prep for a swap- but I will re-read it in case I missed something-
Thanks, I appreciate the link/info.

Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
Have you considered dropping the motor with the cross member to the floor and pulling it out through the wheel well. that is the best way to install the v-8

Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
You have to unbolt the mounts from the top as well as the bottom, they have a fail safe lip on them that will keep them locked into the cross member if/when the rubber parts go bad.
Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
Got it. I couldn't figure out what the fail safe lip was- but knew it would probably impede motor removal. Thanks.
As for out the wheel well, hmm. I have an engine hoist so figure it would be easier and I wouldn't have to remove the suspension, etc.
is that not true?

Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
You will have to drop/remove the suspension to get it out of the way of the oil pan so you can slide the engine forward in the bay to clear stuff...that's how i did it at least.

Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
There are two bolts if you are looking down from the top. remove those two and the engine should come off through the top. I just removed my engine yesterday also and had to do the same.

Hey PORSCHYN-
Did you have to remove the clutch slave or form or speed sensors? Or the radiator or fans?
Think I got everything detached but it still feels, uh "attached" -
Thanks-

Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
If you are separating it from the TQ then you can just leave everything on. If you are trying to leave the bell housing in the car then you will have to remove the speed sensor and the bracket. also you will need to remove the slave and rod that the Throw out bearing arm rides in. To much of a pain in the A$$, just remove all of it at once. It's not like you will be needing it in the car!
Re: How to detach passenger side motor mount
Thanks so much admin. First Porsche engine pull so wanted to make sure I had gotten everything.
Any counsel/tricks on wiggling motor out through the top? Only have a couple hours with the engine
Hoist so want to be fast and efficient. Followed every tutorial/sticky/thread I could find online, but . . .
Assuming I pull it as far forward as possible and then lift the sucker up and out-
I have:
Fans out
Flywheel bolts out
Bell housing bolts out
Power steering hanging down
Wiring harness detached and isolated
Ac/coolant lines detached
Exhaust manifold detached
Motor mounts all detached
Thanks in advance for the wisdom-
