After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

First off, READ!
Most all of your questions will probably have an answer hear already.
Yes, A carb will fit with a hole in the hood that is big enough for the air cleaner to pass through.
No, it will not fit either one and be able to close the stock hood. A small cowl type scoop is the min probably to get by with.

Re: will a carb fit
in the past day i have done nothing but search and read. most of the pictures i seen were of the hoods open or off so there was no way of telling if they would fit under the hood. also is this a whole that has to be as large as the complete air cleaner, will the hood close over the carb with no air cleaner on the car. some articles talked about cutting hoods others did not. also will all three engines in a carb'd set up require cutting the hood ls, lt, sbc? sorry if i could have found the info i was looking for i wouldnt have asked. maybe i searched for the wrong thing.....

Re: will a carb fit
i have pics of hood open and closed and i run a carb on mine. i have a cowl ind hood scoop which is a 4inch height style which isnt quite enough its really close to my air cleaner im going to either raise it a littlle or get a 6in scoop .in summer i run it with scoop off to limit heat build up as engine bay is tight and helps to limit carb vapor lock from excessive heat build up.

Re: will a carb fit
no problem fuel injected ls motors are hard to beat for conversion i have another 944 that is on back burner that will get an ls motor my carbed 944 auto has been an ongoing experiment for about last 10 or so years .i have a 2011 ss camaro with a blown ls 3 and it is insane fast .picturing that motor in a 2700 pound car is crazy.if you can dream it you can build it.its been done on many 944s .alot of info on this forum.almost any problem that has been encountered is in the archives on here .fuel injection technology has improved dramaticaly in the last few years making it easier to install and understand .almost every aspect of doing conversion has been covered you just have to search for it good luck on your your conversion
