HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

LS swap strut brace
What are you guys doing for a strut brace? I see them on Ebay for 300 plus shipping. Any other alternatives or do I have to build to suit?

Re: LS swap strut brace
I wondered if a 944 strut brace would fit over the ls1 motor. I figured we would have to custom our own.

Re: LS swap strut brace
That KLA in the forward position like the pics and LS1 intake would probaly touch. If it could be rotated backwards it may clear. I cut a length of 7/8" Dia. thick-walled alloy tubing and threaded it for inserts. I'm working on the tower base mock-ups now. The key to the thicker wall 7/8" diameter tube is to have it's preload bolt eyelets at 45mm from the base of the towers. That will give the crosstube balanced clearance on the LS intake and hood (I've heard that some braces vibrate against the hood slightly). I also will build them to lockdown by 2 of the tower bolts so the struts don't have to be removed and the car doesn't have to be jacked and put on stands. All that work interferes with driving time.

The KLA will clear LT1 / LT4 LS1 / LS6 and 6.1 Hemi, in the 944 chassis. I usually run them in the rear position.

Re: LS swap strut brace
The ls motors actually have more over-motor clearance than the 944 motors. Any strut brace will work! There are a few cheaper ones that they always talk about on rennlist, but i don't recall their names off the top of my head...
Edit: Correction, that bar is the KLA bar. Good bar for the price.

Has anyone tried to fit it over a 16V head?

Re: LS swap strut brace
my strut brace fits fine, both ways actually, "lots" of clearance.
but a strut brace on 944 doesnt really do that much, I never botherd using mine for racing, I am thinking about redoing it though, only way I see it doing any good, if it its welded solid at both ends with a square or round tube in larger dim. not uniballs at each end.

I think most of us here have 16 valves, but they're divided evenly among two cylinder heads. You're going to want to ask on rennlist...Walkerhiboost wrote:Has anyone tried to fit it over a 16V head?
