For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Hey Guys -- I am getting ready to plum ac lines and I wanted to know exactly what I was looking at.  In the picture...what is the item circled in red -- and what are the lines circled in green ( which is which).

Lastly -- where is the expansion valve located.  I have a 1984 944.

What year model car is it that you are working on?

The red circle looks to be a vacuum actuated solenoid for one of the control doors.

The lines are you ac lines , the large one is the suction line and the smaller one is the pressure, but I need to know what car we are working on to get you all the info you need.

Those are lines for the AC unit.  The expansion valve is in the black blower box in the background of this picture.  You need to totally disassemble it to get to the valve.  Good luck!!

Late models (85.5 up) do not have these fittings, the firewall ones are what we have to deal with.  All I did was adapt the suction side, by brazing a crimp to rubber hose fitting.  I used the high pressure as is.

I'm chasing a leak in my ac, has anyone had experience of leaks behind the firewall inside the cabin.

Can you tell me what these are.... Empty Fitting

Here's what the fitting I used looks like.  It's a bead lock crimp fitting on one side, the other side brazes to the A/C line.

Can you tell me what these are.... Empty Leak

That's where the evaporator is, get a UV leak detector kit (I got mine for $50 on Amazon, covers A/C, coolant, oil, etc) and go hunting.  Good luck!
