HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

5Th Gear Swap
Hey everyone, I am a newbie to this site. I have an early 944 track car that's still tons of fun to drive, even as an underpowered 4 banger. Hopefully, in the near future I too will be pumping-out some serious hp with a V8 transplant of my own…!
I have read that a lot of 944 V8 folks are looking for the tall ratio 5th gear from an early 944 which will provide higher top end. At the moment I am looking for the closer ratio 5th gear set for my track car. The 5th gear I now have is: from the (1983 – 85) O16K transaxle with a ratio of: 37:27 (0.7297) and the 5th gear I am looking for is from the later 951 Turbo or 944S with a ratio of: 35:29 (0.829). If anyone is interested in the taller 5th gear ratio that is better suited for V8 power cars please speak-up.

5th Gear Swap
OK, I should mention I am looking to make a trade - my tall 5th gear set for a short 5th gear set. Does that sound reasonable...? How about sending me a personal message and we could discuss the details?

5TH Gear Swap
Being very new to this forum I now realize have not yet reached my posting limit and apparently cannot reply to the Personal Messages that I have already received. Could I ask each of you to resend your PM and include an email address so I can reply to your message outside this forum? Thanks, Jay

5th Gear Swap - Track video
Here is an example of my dilemma. Link to my Track Video: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
On the track I reach redline early on the front straight and would like to up shift to 5th gear but only if the engine were to keep pulling. With the 5th gear set I now have any up shift into 5th gear will only drop engine RPM by about 2K and down to the lower end of the torque curve and too little time before the end of the straight. With a closer ratio 5th gear I would be able to up shift into 5th and still have some pulling power.
I know what you're thinking, just put a V8 in it and stop messing with the transaxle...
