HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

steering wheel hub
ive got an aftermarket wheel and a quick release on my car and the wheel is a little close for my liking. ive got the typical momo steering wheel hub, does anyone know of a shorter hub that fits the late 944?
im under the impression that a 964, 993, 996 and boxster aftermarket hub fits, and i found a couple short hubs for those cars but they dont appear to have the horn contact plate or tab for the turn signal cancel.

Re: steering wheel hub
Hi Sharkey,
I'm not sure I can help but I'm replacing my steering wheel also. I opted not to get the quick release for the same reason you mentioned. It just pushed the steering wheel too far back into my lap. In all my research, I couldn't find a hub/quick release combo that matched the factory position.
I have a Momo EAG35BKOS Leather Steering Wheel and Momo Hub L7004. This fits my '87S and places the steering wheel very close to the factory position. All the connections are there for the horn too. Since the quick release was off the table, I opted for the flat bottom wheel. It's modernizes the interior a bit too.

To be clear, I have not yet installed this on my car but I checked the hub and it is definitely a match.
I understand the earlier 944's used a different shaft spline and require a different hub.
Good luck in your search!!

Re: steering wheel hub
thats the same hub im running currently with a momo millenium wheel and nrg quick release hub. it was great for me up till this point, my seat was mounted further back as im 6'5 with long legs, but my seating position in the car has changed a slight bit (floorpan mods, roll cage, etc). after driving it i find that the wheel is just a little to close.
nrg innovations has a number of short hubs listed to fit porsches, but nothing listed for a 944. going by momo, the hub is the same for a late 944, 993, and 996. looking at nrg. listed for 993 and 996 also fits 986, and it looks right accept nothing shows a way to cancel the turn signals (the tab on the momo hub does that) nor does it show a horn contact plate. that is srk-189h. srk-186h is for a mk1 Volkswagen, the backside looks like the momo 7004 hub. srk-187h looks the same on the back as the 186, but is a little taller, and its listed as fitting 914.
im just confused on all this.

Re: steering wheel hub
thought id update this for anyone that runs into it.
i ordered the nrg srk-189h. the box claims it fits 944/968/986/911. it does not come with the contact plate as shown in their pics. it also does not fit my car, an 85.5, the splines on the hub are much larger than my column.
i have read the steering column changed on the 944, i assumed it was the early/late 1985 breakpoint when the dash changed. either thats not the case, or the nrg hub just doesnt fit my car.
im guessing now that i need the earlier hub, maybe the vw one.
*update*
after looking again my hub was mislabled. the hub and the box was marked 185 while the top of the box was marked 189. this hub is for a type 1 vw.

Re: steering wheel hub
Let me help you guys out real quick...
That NRG short hub will NOT fit without major modifications.
See video: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
IMHO, it was not worth the trouble, but with my rollcage, I needed it.
However, I had to put the horn button on a switch panel on the dash.
The Result: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Any questions, let me know! I have over 140 videos of my swap!

what was the number of that hub? looks like the srk-189h.
im not 100% sure but i dont think the column changed too radically during the 85.5 changeover, i think it was when airbags were introduced. my theory is the srk-189h hub is to fit an airbag column seeing it fits porsches into the 2000s.
i think the srk-186h hub would fit a non airbag 944 column. the backside of this hub matches the common momo 7004 hub and the splines look the same. the nrg fitment is mk2 vw.
i asked on a facebook group and i was referred to one on ebay, its flashpower 7557. its a cheaper looking and feeling product, but it does seem solid and most importantly it fits. it would be nice if this hub was a little larger diameter at the bottom, you can see between the hub and the column trims, but its not the end of the world. this hub comes in at 2 1/2" shorter than the momo. it actually now feels a tad on the short side, but i have yet to drive the car with it.

Re: steering wheel hub
This is what it is:

I spent weeks trying different Momo, NRG and random eBay hubs. This was the only one that even came close. After telling NRG tech support that their hub doesn't fit, they basically said "not our problem, good luck".
