HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

15" wheel fitment question
im planning on doing some drag racing this year and plan to put some slicks or drag radials on my car, and this has brought me much confusion regarding what wheels fit and what doesnt with my combination. here is the combo
-85.5 car
-early offset
-86 turbo rear brakes
only concerned about what fits on the back
im trying to sort out what 15" wheels will fit the car. i know i can run a 16x8 phone dial, or a 16x9 fuchs (or fuchs replica), but there is a very small selection in drag radials (and no actual slicks) for a 16" wheel. going to a 15" really opens up the options. i know a 15" phone dial will fit, but a 15x7 is too narrow. ive been looking at the fuchs replicas, the price makes them an attractive option. i know fuchs style 16" wheels designed for a 911 (and all the replicas are based off these wheels) have caliper to spoke clearance issues, aside from the 16x9, but im unable to find any in depth info on 15" fuchs wheels on a 951. i did find someone saying 15" fuchs wont work on a 951, but no reason why.
so what im getting at here is has anyone tried 15" fuchs style wheels on the back with turbo brakes? id really like to know if its a problem with the shape of the barrel and its hitting the caliper, or if its spoke clearance to the caliper is an issue. if its the latter, im willing to run a slip on spacer and change to longer studs.
or if anyone knows of another 15" wheel that will work with my combo that info would be great. im not stuck on the fuchs wheels, just seems like my only option at this point

Re: 15" wheel fitment question
See these guys - JWR Jongbloed Racing.
I have 15x9 on 4 corners of an early offset car, with Turbo brakes. I think they even make a 15X10 wheel in the same style.
Interesting fact....the clearance between the wheel and caliper is LESS on the rear than the front!

thanks for the info. i had read about jrw and looked at their site, but the lack of pricing and actual off the shelf wheels turned me away. i figured they would be another company doing $1k+ made to order wheels, and thats just not in the budget.
did yours come from phil's tire service? i see they offer them in 8 and 9 inch wide, but im a little confused on their offsets. the 15x8" wheel is ET15, which seems right, but the 15x9 is ET35, but that dosnt seem right as it puts the outside of the wheel further in than the 8" wheel (and the inside ends up way in). it says these are the wheels for an early offset car, and they do the same sort of thing with the late offset, although not quite as much (8" et40, 9" et55). im a little concerned about inside tire clearance, and while it seems like id have room to run a spacer, id rather not.

Re: 15" wheel fitment question
I did get them from Phil's Tire service. They are not "made to order" but are stocked in the US....somewhere. Four wheels were less than $1K.
As far as offset, I just asked them. They sell tons to the 944 crowd. Here is their response (remember 9" wheel):
""Just to confirm - we show early offset to be ET35 - the ET55 sits 20mm closer to the suspension.""
That's what I used. They seem to be fine.
Gord.

Re: 15" wheel fitment question
the offsets just seem a little odd, but i guess they are pulling the tire away from the fender to provide a little extra clearance for race cars that are dropped way down. any other 9" wheel i see for an early car is around a 15mm offset. right now i have a 17x9 on my car and its 0mm offset, it is a tad too close to the quarter panel though.
im going to have to pull my rear wheel off and do some measuring.

Re: 15" wheel fitment question
my suspicion was correct that a 15x9 +35 is going to be too far in, and any tire im looking at is going to rub the inside of the wheel well. the flip side is the fuchs wheels at a 15x9 +15 are going to put the tire real close to the fender.
so it looks like with somewhere around a 10mm spacer the jongbloed wheels will work
